Communication and Engagement Worker (Mental Health and Substance Use)

Duration:
Permanent


Hours: 21 hours per week

Salary:
£22,844 to £25,383 pro rata

To work with programme participants, staff and partner agencies to record, promote, develop, share and celebrate our work.


To use accessible communication methods and platforms appropriate to a wide range of audiences to share recovery stories, amplify voices of lived experience and promote recovery focussed interventions and activities.


MAIN WORKING CONTACTS

  • Individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery.
  • Mental Health and Substance Use Team members and other DVVA colleagues.
  • Staff, volunteers, and participants in organisations and agencies working in the field of mental health, including Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership, NHS Tayside, Dundee City Council, national and local voluntary organisations.

KEY DUTIES

Promote Recovery Focussed Interventions and Activities

  • Assist the Mental Health and Substance Use team to highlight and share the value of peer recovery in mental health.
  • Utilise and share communications expertise for the promotion of recovery focussed activities and peer recovery opportunities.
  • Assist in promoting the message that mental health recovery is for everyone.
  • Oversee and assist with the further development of Recoverzine Dundee by communicating directly to the volunteers and team members involved; distributing printed and digital copies

Build communications capacity

  • Support network members, volunteers, and staff to develop communication skills required to promote and celebrate the work of the Mental Health and Substance Use Team across a range of media and communication platforms.
  • Share knowledge, skills and learning including how to plan, prepare, record and edit photographs, videos, and podcasts so that programme outcomes are achieved.
  • Support programme participants, volunteers, and staff to make best use of social media channels / press.
  • Build digital communication capacity across the DVVA Mental Health and Substance Use Team.

Provide communication support

  • Support network members, volunteers, and staff in developing and promoting a rolling programme of activities to raise awareness of mental health issues.
  • Provide communication support to promote the work of Mental Health and Substance Use Team programme.
  • Work as part of the Mental Health and Substance Use Team to promote and highlight good practice in mental health communities and third sector organisations.

Co-production

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with project participants, colleagues, and partner agencies.
  • Support peer involvement in the design and delivery of project work.
  • Keep lived experience of recovery at the centre of project work.

Contribute to developing and delivering the Mental Health and Substance Use Team Plan

  • Maintain accurate records of attendances, outputs and outcomes to evidence work undertaken.
  • Assist in evaluation and service improvement.
  • Actively and constructively participate in team meetings and activities, contributing to shared team developments.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure the team plan and its delivery reflects

GENERAL

  • Be committed to the work of Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action, and promote team working.
  • Work in accordance with the organisation's policies and procedures.
  • Promote and support partnership working.
  • Be aware of any areas of risk and advise on improvements.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, which will ensure compliance with existing quality systems such as EFQM and Good Governance Award.
  • Undertake personal and professional development as required by the role

LOCATION:
Dundee


ANNUAL LEAVE:21 days per annum on appointment increasing each year by 1 day to a maximum of 25 days, plus 6 public holidays, plus 5 days Christmas closedown (pro rata).
