2-year, fixed-term contract 21 hrs per week (over 3 days)

£12,558 per annum (£11.50 per hour, FTE £20,930)

Workplace pension (employer contributes: 3%)

About us:


Wythenshawe Good Neighbours (WGN) is an established community initiative (office based in Brooklands). It aims to inspire, invest in and include older residents (mainly 60+) so that they can benefit from the services, facilities and opportunities that Wythenshawe offers. Its core objective is to promote wellbeing and reduce social isolation for older people.

WGN does this through activities such as: a social eating programme; day-trips; regular newsletter; practical resilience resource; information/skills-sharing opportunities and sign-posting to local services, activities and events.

New, from 2023, this will also be achieved through WGN's Volunteer Drivers Scheme, developed as an accessible way to support WGN's members with getting to and from appointments, organised activities, and social engagements across Wythenshawe.


Volunteer Drivers Scheme Assistant - the role:

We are looking for a community-focused person who is keen to help improve quality of life for older residents, working with partners and stakeholders across Wythenshawe.

Primary Purpose of the Role:

• To support the setup of the

Wythenshawe Good Neighbours Volunteer Drivers Scheme:
a Manchester City Council funded project.

• To support associated administration of the scheme, including booking/scheduling, using bespoke software (training will be provided)
• To contribute to coordination of volunteers for the drivers scheme.
• The role will require the successful applicant to be a confident/careful driver, and to use their own vehicle to provide a doortodoor transport service, as booked through the WGN Volunteer Drivers Scheme, to connect WGN members to their local community i.e. by driving them to appointments etc. As the scheme develops, more of the driving will be done by volunteers.

The post holder will receive 45p per mile when they are driving for WGN Volunteer Drivers Scheme, as reimbursement of the cost of petrol and to support the costs of maintaining their vehicle.
