An exciting opportunity has arisen at Health Innovation North East North Cumbria (HI NENC) to appoint a Patient Safety Lead.

Overview of the role


The Patient Safety Lead will lead a team of 15 Programme Managers in delivering our NHS England commissioned Safety Improvement Programmes across the North East North Cumbria (NENC) region, as part of the national Patient Safety Collaborative (PSC).


The Safety Improvement Programmes aim to test and spread evidence-based safety interventions and strategies, to learn from excellence, and to support local systems to continuously improve patient safety and health outcomes.


In , these programmes are likely to span a portfolio of themes covering maternity and neonates, medicines safety, system safety, mental health and the management/escalation of deteriorating patients.


The postholder will be one of 15 Patient Safety Leads across England, and will represent Health Innovation North East North Cumbria ( HI NENC) on the Health Innovation Network Patient Safety team.

The PSL will be responsible for co-ordinating the development of the annual support offer and implementation plan, overseeing its delivery, and reporting quarterly progress to NHS England.

The successful individual will be passionate about improving the health of those in our region and collaborating nationally. They will be self-motivated, a great team player and an inspiring leader. They should possess excellent communication skills and be keen to see good practice adopted and spread.

Salary:
Starting from £59,270 per annum pro rata (dependent on experience).


Hours of Work:
Up to 22.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday)


Contract Type and Duration:
Permanent. Secondments will be considered.


Place of Work:
Flexible working arrangements will be considered, including working from home and office-based options

Main Duties and Responsibilities

General

  • Coordinate together with the Integrated Care Board (ICB), the development and approval of the annual HI NENC Patient Safety Support Offer and Implementation Plan tailored to meet regional needs.
  • Oversee and support the Programme Managers in delivering their individual safety Improvement Programme.
  • Coordinate the production and approval of the quarterly programme reporting and lead the assurance meeting with NHS England.
  • Line manage the PSC team and support their individual development and training needs.
  • Represent HI NENC's interests on the Health Innovation Network National Patient Safety team.
  • Foster the necessary regional and national stakeholder relationships needed to raise the profile and credibility of the HI NENC safety improvement programme.
  • Drive the implementation of quality improvement methodology across HI NENC projects, programmes, networks, and communities.
  • Identify and evaluate the impact of innovative service developments and technology solutions on patient outcomes and NHS services as required.
  • Develop Quality Improvement (QI) models in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders, evaluating the feasibility of local implementation of safety improvement interventions.
  • Act as a champion for Patient Safety, providing expert knowledge and capability to contribute to safer health and social care across the North East and North Cumbria.
  • Using an expert knowledge network of senior contacts, work across all partner organisations, Trusts, the ICB, Universities, Local Authorities, to enable collaboration and opportunities to develop.
  • Develop networks and communities across North East North Cumbria with a focus on patient safety and quality improvement.
  • Continue to lead the regional QI network.
  • Promote the values of Health Innovation NENC.
  • Ensure effective communications within and between teams, be involved in and participate in meetings as requested.
  • Contribute to supporting the development and implementation of the new Innovation pathway/OMNIA system to ensure that relevant project data is captured and evidenced.
