What we're looking for


The post holder will provide high level administrative support against defined procedures, with autonomy over workload to meet business needs.


To assess the design / production / in service aspects of engineering assets, using procedures, experience and knowledge appropriate for routine situations.

The role may include managing the projects.

The role:


  • Proactively mentor Surveyors within Field Survey Group contributing to the success of the Marine & Offshore and LR as a whole.
  • Provide technical assistance/advice, as requested, to Marine & Offshore Surveyors in other operating regions.
  • Support opportunities for business development in the local area as whole.
  • Survey safety critical systems on ships, fixed and floating offshore installations.
  • Survey at equipment manufacturer's works for classification, verification and certification requirements.
  • Conduct audits of Duty Holder's assurance process to ensure that safety critical systems are being adequately maintained.
  • Control of 'management of change' processes for a variety of clients.
  • Understanding and interpreting UK offshore legislation.
  • Understanding the basic principles of risk management and interpreting an offshore installation safety case.
  • Prepare performance standards and written schemes of examination.
  • Provide good control of assigned work, including communicating with clients, financial control and timely and accurate reporting.
  • Take an active role in all work in the area, proactively managing contracts with focus on service delivery, retention and developing client relationships.
  • Actively engage in seeking new opportunities to develop and strengthen LR position in this area.
  • Work closely with colleagues from other departments and business streams, encouraging collaboration and supporting business interests.
  • Work in accordance with role profile and behavioural competencies for the band and work with the team to ensure that they achieve their behavioural competencies for their band.
  • To produce the deliverable within the agreed parameters in a defined format to time, budget and to quality.
  • To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness
  • To assist in service delivery improvement by communicating internal / external client feedback as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the appropriate authorisations are gained and are kept up to date.
  • Undertake routine administration as required in line with current processes and procedures

What you bring:


  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Sufficient knowledge to obtain authorisations to enable survey of electrical and mechanical safety critical elements
  • Experience of class, statutory and industrial surveys with a working knowledge of international codes and standards applicable to the energy business stream.
  • A proven track record of relevant experience.
  • Strategic thinking, recognises how own work contributes to their team.
  • Change management skills; understands the need for change and is able to adapt own independent specialist role/team working processes in order to accommodate such change.
  • Technically strong, with good communication skills and a willingness to find solutions, the role requires confidence in making decisions, sometimes under pressure, and an understanding of the commercial aspects of the work
  • Working towards or achieving charted or incorporated engineering status.
  • To work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS0
  • To provide technical and commercial management, e.g. project management, process management.
  • Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work.
