JOB OVERVIEW
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is looking to appoint a
Locum Consultant Dermatologist (10 PAs) to join the Trust with a view
to shaping the future of the service. We are seeking to appoint an
enthusiastic, energetic Clinician to join our equally enthusiastic and
established clinical Dermatology team. There will be an opportunity to
expand and progress specific interests relevant to the department.


MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB

Duties will include:


  • To develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment
and management of acutely ill patients.

  • To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and
locally with clinical teams and commissioners.

  • To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

WORKING FOR OUR ORGANISATION
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main
provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people
in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

Encompassing some of the most picturesque parts of England and Wales,
the Trust's catchment stretches from the Cambrian Mountains in the
west, to Newport and the fringes of the Black Country in the east. The


main towns include:
Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Oswestry,
Shrewsbury and Whitchurch (in Shropshire); Newport, Telford and
Wellington (in Telford & Wrekin); and Newtown and Welshpool (in Powys)
- all beautiful and unique.

Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in
Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury which
are located 20 minutes' drive apart. Together they provide 99% of
our activity. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital
services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics,
inpatient medical care and critical care.


DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION AND MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The Department

The department currently comprises of 1.8 wte Consultant
Dermatologists and part time Specialty Doctors and a full-time
clinical fellow. There are two Clinical Nurse Specialists in Skin
Cancer. There are also dedicated general Dermatology Nurses who
undertake phototherapy service at Princess Royal Hospital, nurse led
Isotretinoin and Biologic clinics.

The dermatology department provides a full range of Dermatology
Services. These include general dermatology clinics and specialist
clinics. Currently specialist clinics are provided in Paediatric
Dermatology, skin cancer, acne, and immunosuppression. There is a
large cohort of patients on biologic therapy for which there is a
dedicated clinic. There is also a monthly joint dermatology
rheumatology clinic.

This appointment will help support the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital
NHS Trust to provide services for all complex acute pathways for
dermatology oncology, paediatrics and psoriasis and patch test
services which are presently subcontracted to our community-based
Consultant Dermatologist.

Beds are available at both the Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal
Hospital for the admission of patients with severe dermatological
problems or for patients who require intense topical treatment. Beds
are situated on the general medical wards. Children are admitted to
the paediatric unit and management is shared with the Paediatricians
with whom there are close links. The department also regularly
participates in the teaching programme for both undergraduates and
postgraduates.

Skin Cancer and Dermatology Oncology

The Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team meeting for the management of
skin cancer is held weekly. The current MDT Chair is Dr Kelly. The
SaTH SSMDT link is with University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). The MDT
is supported by the Trust Cancer Services department and is attended
by representatives from Dermatology, Histopathology and Oncology.
Surgical input is provided by Occuloplastic, ENT and Maxillofacial
surgeons who attend the MDT.

There is also excellent support from the departments of radiotherapy
and radiology. The service is supported by the department of Medical
Illustration who own a number of sophisticated digital cameras and
provide a full range of services.

The Midlands Dermatology Society has regular rotating meetings
throughout the year; there is a weekly Joint Consultative Clinic and
monthly Clinical Governance meetings alternating with Business
meetings.

Job Plan

their Clinical Director and consultant colleagues, on behalf of the
Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job
plan is based on a 10 PA working week. The job plan will be reviewed
annually and is a prospective agreement that sets out the consultants
duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It
covers all aspects of a consultant's professional practice including
clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial
responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule
