The Company:


  • A leading manufacturer of flexible plain and printed film, supplying primarily the food and medical sectors are looking to recruit a Plant Manager to join their team.

Job Title:


  • Plant Manager

Purpose of Role of the Plant Manager:

  • To manage directly, through the leadership team, Production Areas, Supply Chain Operations, Engineering / Continuous Improvement & Product Quality. To ensure the Site achieves the Site Operational Plan and is effective and efficient with regards to labour,material usages and other budgetary cost constraints.

Key Responsibilities of the Plant Manager:
Organisation and Planning

  • Critical role in the planning, management, and delivery of the sales order book
  • Coordinate and project manage all aspects of delivering the site agenda from daytoday activities to support of identifying and delivering the strategic goals of the Group
  • Ability to plan and deliver on multiple tasks across the full range of activities under direct control or via matrix reports in Safety, Finance, HR etc
  • The scope of impact will be across the one manufacturing site and in support of the UK Flexibles Strategy.
  • Working with BU MD and BU Leader Managers to develop and regularly refresh succession and hi potential development plans, and to coordinate site training & development activities to support development needs identified

  • Proactive, confident, and assertive communicator dealing in the facts and data,
  • The need to build and maintain strong relationships within the business and externally to customers and suppliers
  • Pragmatic, numerate, succinct, and persuasive, able to influence internally and externally to achieve outcomes that are good for the site as well as the business
  • Ability to develop good, professional working relationships that allow others to build trust and confidence in their own and the Business performance
  • Ability to coach, facilitate and influence outcomes
  • Welldeveloped written capabilities for creating reports, capex requests, support tender processes etc
  • Extensive internal and external customer, supplier, and stakeholder management
Problem Solving

  • Regular need to address and resolve conflicting demands through consultative, directive and negotiation techniques as and where appropriate
  • Resolve day to day and longerterm challenges
  • Build a site culture that is integrated into the Group and Culture
  • Build the investment strategy for the site

Accountability
People Management(number of direct reports and team size)

  • Site has 100 people on a 24/5 shift working pattern
Task Management(what the role is responsible for, and the measures involved)

  • To manage and develop the performance of the Leadership team so that they take full responsibility for the performance of their areas
  • Manage the plant functions & operational activities to meet performance objectives in the annual budget, cost improvement, HSE, Process safety, reliability, availability, productivity quality, delivery, and regularity compliance.
  • Implement plant strategies in alignment with global operations & strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus to achieve key objectives.
  • To investigate performance and efficiency variation and to implement corrective actions as appropriate
  • To enthusiastically drive the Sites Continuous Improvement programme, identifying opportunities, using employee skills and knowledge to improve performance and to develop an ongoing CI culture in line with the CPS program
  • To continually improve the culture and attitudes towards Health & Safety, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety requirements and to hold people accountable for their own actions and behaviours. To ensure that all H & S checks and audit actions are carriedout in a timely manner and relevant trackers updated.
  • To improve Housekeeping and machine cleanliness in the factory and maintain the highest standards 5S / Lean
  • Maintain discipline and compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Implement Visual Management to improve communication and understanding of Site performance
  • Ensure that SIOP process is delivered and then embedded over time
  • Ensure that daily Lean Tier 2 & 4 Meetings take place and are effectively driving action.
  • Ensure all PDRs are conducted in a timely manner & link in with site / business succession planning
Resources Management(e.g., budget, equipment, facilities)

  • Setting and managing the budget for the delivery of the HR agenda on site including L&D, Compensation and Benefits, recruitment, and resourcing
  • Actively engaged in the coordination and management of the site headcount budget.
  • Managing the delivery of the HR and Payroll service through the resourcing and direction of the team
  • Oversee the management of the benefits provision including Company cars, pensions, healthcare etc

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (preferable), with a recognised management qualification or substantial manufacturing experience
  • Minimum 5 years within a management role within a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Knowledge of flexo printing, converting & supply chain
  • Strong awareness of current SHE and employment legislation
  • Computer literate with advanced Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of efficiency and profitability improvements

Salary:

- £60,000 - £80,000pa depending on experience
