Are you enthusiastic, motivated and willing to learn new skills with a passion for surgery and high-quality patient care? If you are, an exciting job opportunity has arisen on Mayhill unit for Band 2 Healthcare Assistant.

Mayhill unit is a 23 hour unit that provides pre and post operative care. We specialise in Ear Nose and Throat, General/Gynae, Breast, Oral maxillofacial, Vascular and Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery.

Mayhill Unit has a fantastic team of dedicated Surgical Nurses who pride themselves in delivering outstanding care. The environment is challenging, exciting and supportive, and facilitates the development of specialised skills.

You will enjoy working as part of a highly skilled and motivated team that includes Nurses, Health Care Assistant, Anaesthetists, Theatre and Recovery staff.

  • To provide high quality nursing care.
  • To work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers, relatives and all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Maintain and develop high standards of care
  • As part of a team manage caseloads of patients within defined clinical area.
  • Take on responsibility for personal development and support the development and supervision of others by developing and maintaining specialist knowledge of day surgery practice
  • Contribute towards the continuing development of professional nursing practice in the clinical area
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner and be a role model to less experienced and new staff at all times
  • Work proactively to ensure that every patient attendance meets the patient's expectations and needs with timely undertaking of procedure and effective communication with relatives, patients and carers.
  • To supervise and teach junior members of staff and learners as required, and maintain own personal development with support.

  • To communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised.
  • Ability to disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately.
  • To deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment.
  • To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and professional code of conduct.
  • To input and retrieve patient and staff information from computerbased systems.
  • As a Health Care Assistant, you will be responsible for participating and assisting in the delivery of care / services to patients
  • Provide safe and compassionate care of a high standard under supervision of registered nurses
  • Assisting patients with activities of daily living including personal care and nutritional and dietary support
  • Recording of observations and assessments of patients catheter care, ECG
  • Additional supportive tasks as directed by registered nurse eg venepuncture and ECG's
