Diamond UK Facilities Management Ltd is looking for a Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Sight Scotland's school at Canaan Lane, Edinburgh.

Shifts will be from 11.00 am to 1.30 pm Monday to Friday

The main responsibilities and accountabilities of this role are:


Reports To:

Chef Role Purpose:
Based at the Sight Scotland Blind School, the Kitchen Assistant will be expected to;

  • Work with the chef to plan and cook a varied and nutritious diet for pupils
  • Support the chef to provide a clean, safe and welcoming dining room and to enable the kitchen to function effectively.

The main responsibilities and accountabilities of this role are:


  • To assist in the preparation of high quality food as directed by the chef
  • To assist with meals service
  • To assist with clear up/wash up
  • To maintain a clean, safe working environment as directed by the chef and by working to cleaning schedules
  • To ensure Food Hygiene and Health & Safety recommendations are complied with
  • To advise the chef of any concerns in relation to Food Hygiene and Health & Safety
  • To advise the chef or Facilities Manager of any malfunction of equipment or fittings that require maintenance or cannot be kept to standard through normal cleaning procedures.

To do this role, you will:


  • Demonstrate excellent team working and communication skills
  • Demonstrate awareness of all Diamond UK policies andprocedures
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding pupils at alltimes
  • Participate in appropriate training as agreed with/authorised by the Chef or Facilities Manager
  • Undertake other duties as may reasonably be required by the Chef or Facilities Manager

On a day to day basis you will work with different people and teams, these could be:


  • Pupils
  • Colleagues
  • Other Sight Scotland services
  • Senior Staff

Requirements of this role are:

You are a member of the PVG scheme (paid for by Diamond UK)

  • You will have a 6 month probation period
  • That you participate in all staff training and development and maintain your own professional development
  • You will wear the appropriate PPE in accordance with current guidance for the role.
  • You will follow guidance, policies and procedures relating to your own health and safety and that of colleagues and service users at all times

Shifts will be from 11.00 am to 1.30pm Monday to Friday. The school works on a term time basis 39 weeks of the year. There is no requirement to work out of school opening times. Additional shifts may be offered to ensure work is provided during school closure dates.
