About the Role:


The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Undertaking a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice, including the provision of clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team;
  • Data entry of relevant patient information and medical data into the clinical system;
  • Scanning patient information into computerised records, including medical documents, hospital records and letters, as necessary;
  • Photocopying documents as required;
  • Actioning tasks set by clinicians and the practice manager;
  • Covering reception;
  • Handling phone enquiries efficiently.
  • Experienced medical administrators, with excellent IT and typing skills;
  • Adaptable and friendly, with strong administration, time management and organisational skills;
  • Excellent communicators able to work in a confidential and discreet manner;
  • Able to "think on their feet" in a busy working environment;
  • Able to multitask, work hard and maintain a high level of attention to detail, when under pressure;
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as comfortable working independently.
Some flexibility is required as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.


About Us:

The successful applicant will be warmly welcomed to our professional and caring team at The Tollgate Practice in Stanway.

We are an independent, medium-sized practice, serving a patient population of just over 9,200.

We work from our modern purpose-built premises in Stanway, Colchester and pride ourselves on our commitment not only to our patients but also to the welfare and progression of our staff.

We understand that it can be rather daunting starting a new job and therefore our supportive team will always be on hand to provide guidance and assistance if required.

The team is managed by a practice manager and a deputy practice manager who are always on hand to assist the smooth running of the practice.

Our administration manager, provides support and guidance to our non-clinical team and we have a full complement of secretaries, administrators, receptionists and coders.


We have 2 GP partners, 7 (long-term) locum GPs, 1 advanced nurse practitioner, 3 practice nurses and 2 health care assistants.

We also have two pharmacists and a full team of ARRS staff to complete our team.

We have 2 GP registrars training at the practice at all times, and their support and guidance is provided by Dr Abeysundara, our senior partner.
