Main Purpose of Role:


ES Global are experts in the provision of bespoke, temporary structures, event overlay and staging events, with substantial projects taking place across the music, sports, cultural, and public sector markets both in the UK and globally.


This contract will be to support the works involved for ES Global who are the Principal Contractor managing the construction of four different countries pavilions at the world expo being held in Osaka/Kansai A World Expo is an event that brings together people and innovations from around the world as part of an effort to address issues facing mankind on a global scale.


You will be the onsite H&S advisor and will be responsible for making sure all sites follow the local construction law as well as ESG policies and procedures.

There will be a team of 2 on-site H&S advisors and between you, you will be responsible for all 4 pavilions.

The second H&S advisor will be Japanese speaking and will support in maintaining local construction standards. You will both be overseen by the UK team and have regular online Microsoft Teamsmeetings for support and guidance. You will be supported by a Japanese translator at all times.


As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be required to support and advise the site management team to reduce the risks,identify any trends and manage the cooperation and coordination of all contractors and subcontractors under ESG'smanagement to ensure that all work performed, doesn't add any unnecessary risks to anyone's health and safety.

The role is site based 6 days a week. Site hours are normally Mon - Sat 07:30 - 18:00, depending on what is happening on site.


What you will be doing
Health & Safety Standards

  • Act as the onsite Health & Safety advisor, with the aim of assisting the Project Manager and supervising engineer to discharge their duties in respect of Health & Safety on site.
  • Work with the site temporary works coordinator for the project, managing all aspects of the works.
  • Provide practical and realistic monitoring, good practice advice and ensure basic legal compliance.
  • Liaise with other H&S team members and the Head of Operational Compliance to seek advice and support where they feel it is required.
Site Inductions, Inspections, and Investigations

  • Help assist with the preparation and delivery (if not online) of all relevant site inductions, production of material and monitor the standards of the inductions throughout the duration of the project, review and audit associated induction paperwork and competence cards where required.
  • Undertake site inspection recording the findings on internal iAuditor weekly template.
  • Coordinate with other managers to undertake H&S inspections and Targeted Risk Monitoring and ensure the findings are recorded iAuditor or Microsoft Teams folder.
  • Site H&S Officers must ensure that all findings are assigned to the appropriate managers to action within agreed timeframes and follow up that these actions have been completed
  • Ensure that appropriate inspections and checks are carried out in line with the project risk profile these include Temporary works, LOLER PUWER, fire emergency and other statutory requirements.
  • Where necessary immediately suspend any unsafe work practices and report situations to the Project Manager/Supervising engineer and ESG Compliance manager.
  • Undertake accident, incident and Near Miss investigations completing all associated paperwork, supported by ESG H&S Manager.
  • Meet with the Project Manager and Site Manager formally on a weekly basis to discuss issues and receive briefing on the work ahead.
  • Participate in regular subcontractors H&S meetings (daily activity briefing meetings DABS)
  • Carry out second line review of Subcontractor's method statements and risk assessments prior to them starting on site.
  • Ensure that all Daily and weekly statutory inspections have been undertaken (These include but not limited to LOLER, PUWER, Working at height, Temporary works, Emergency provisions)
  • Be responsible for maintaining Site Safety Files, including uploading to Teams folder.
  • Assist Organising regular fire evacuations, record any findings and help develop improvement plans.
  • Produce a weekly H&S overview report for inclusion in the Companies Health & safety weekly meeting.
  • You will be responsible for making sure subcontractors working for ESG are fulfilling their legal duties in line with such things as PUWER, LOLER, Pat etc. This will require making sure all weekly returns are completed and dip sampled.
  • Communicate in a form which can be read, copied and recorded.
  • Reply appropriately to any communication within the period for reply.
