The Gastrointestinal Medicine team are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Administration Team Leader to help maintain the efficient administration within GI Medicine.


As Team Leader you will provide operational support to the GI Medicine Service, including both Gastroenterology outpatients and our specialist GI Physiology unit.

You will be responsible for managing an admin team responsible for outpatient and treatment booking, patient queries and general administration support to the medical teams.

We are looking for an individual who has experience of leading a team and of administrative procedures. The post holder will have experience of working in a customer/patient facing environment. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to problem solve and meet deadlines. You will be a team player with the drive and energy to improve the patient experience.


The role allows for a proportion of time to be spent working from home, with the remainder on site on UCLH premises.


Post holder will be required to provide an efficient and effective administrative service to a multidisciplinary team, acting as a source of expert advice and support for trouble shooting non-routine matters or resolving initial complaints.


They will be responsible for monitoring waiting lists and capacity within a service, proactively acting upon issues and working with more senior managers and the clinical team to resolve them, to ensure access and quality targets are met for the service.


In addition, the post holder will have responsibility for added key results area across team management and service improvement, in accordance with the needs of the GI Medicine service.


University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is one of the most complex NHS trusts in the UK, serving a large and diverse population.


The GI Medicine administration team plays a vital role to the functioning of the GI Services Division which is made up of GI Surgery, Endoscopy, GI Medicine and GI Physiology.

The team is responsible for the outpatient clinics for a range of specialties including:

  • Colorectal Medicine (including IBD)
  • Upper GI
  • Nutrition
  • Pancreatobiliary (HPB)
  • Viral Hepatology
  • GI Physiology
  • Upper GI

The GI Physiology Unit falls under the management of GI Medicine and is a specialist unit that offers a range of tests and treatments for speciality physiological conditions.

These include hydrogen breath tests, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS), ano-rectal physiology and more.


The team is made up of team leaders, pathway coordinators, pathway assistants and works closely with the nursing and medical teams to provide effective care to patients.
