Description

The key role of the jobholder is to build, produce and manage a portfolio of UK and international accounts through their relationships with London brokers and new client opportunities, within the guidelines specified by SCOR Syndicate, which will contribute to the achievement of the underwriting business plan.


  • Build and produce as well as manage existing portfolio (renewals, endorsements, risk and coverholder visits, client meetings, claims involvement)
  • Contribute positively to the overall results of the SCOR Syndicate by demonstrably sound technical and profitable underwriting
  • Support the development of the SCOR Syndicate market share position
  • Enhance the SCOR Syndicate image in the market by efficient and innovative support of client needs
  • Support the delivery of the business plan and monitor and report on progress, identify deviations, recommend remedial actions and implement initiatives to achieve plan
  • Adhere to the Underwriting Minimum Standards
  • Act as a technical expert to support the identification of issues and opportunities to maintain and grow the SCOR Syndicate market position
  • Generate new offers and promote the SCOR Syndicate by proactive marketing in accordance with the strategy and guidelines defined in the SBF and the Syndicate Protocols and appropriate regulatory Guidelines
  • Maintain and develop relationships with clients and brokers; travel as and when required to do so
  • Respond to all enquiries in a timely and client focused manner
  • Work within the Risk Appetite for the line of business ensuring delivery within these parameters
  • Receive, select and evaluate offers of business from various sources, calculate ratings and negotiate the conditions and exclusions of the contracts, working with the Head of International Binders
  • Contribute to the claims settlement process in conjunction with the claims department
  • Contribute to the division's technical knowledge of sectors and subsectors in which the jobholder is working
  • Represent SCORs interests with internal and external groups, through the participation in industry forums and corporate activities

Experience

  • Established underwriter with direct underwriting experience in the London market
  • Proven underwriting skills including writing new business and renewals
  • Experience of writing International Business
  • Strong market relationships and significant experience in managing and growing relationships
  • Strong track record in delivering plan in a multitute of market conditions Knowledge of risk profiling, pricing tools and loss models

Competencies

  • Expert knowledge of competitors, cedants, reinsurers and brokers within the London market and internationally
  • Commercial and tactical vision
  • Proven ability to promote underwriting policy
  • Ability to use spreadsheets to a good standard
  • Able to adapt well to SCOR structure and philosophy, including technical underwriting and technical referrals
  • Ability to quickly acquire a thorough understanding of SCOR Specialty underwriting policy and guidelines Strong communication skills verbally, and in writing

Required Education

Essential

  • Educated to A Level or equivalent / other relevant qualifications

Desirable

  • Relevant university degree or equivalent / other relevant qualifications
  • ACII Qualified or equivalent qualifications
