Make UK are looking for an experienced policy professional to join them to manage and deliver their policy work programme to support their goals in championing manufacturing and providing essential business support across manufacturing, engineering, and the wider industrial sector.


Working across many related sectors including HR and employment law, Health and Safety, and productivity improvement, Make UK's aim is to offer expert advise, enabling businesses to remain compliant and focus of future growth and development.


This role will see you working closely with the Policy Director, as well as the Government Affairs and Membership teams in Make UK, to ensure manufacturers voice is heard with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:_

  • Deliver Make UK's policy work programme, continuously evaluate and report back to Senior Management and key stakeholders
  • Deliver Make UK's policy responses to consultations and inquiries to shape outcomes for the benefit of Make UK members and present Make UK as a thought leader.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key political stakeholders
  • With the Director of Policy, identify, plan and manage research projects designed to shape the Make UK's policy and public affairs objectives.
  • Speak and present at external policy committees
  • Support the policy team to manage member policy groups
  • Line management of the policy team
  • Work closely with Government Affairs to ensure policy messaging is consistent in communications, and wider teams to coordinate influencing activity

The successful postholder:_

  • Demonstrable experience in a policy role with comprehensive knowledge and experience of the policymaking process in the UK, including successfully shaping policy outcomes
  • Ability to design, manage and deliver policy projects at pace
  • Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships
  • Ability to react swiftly to events in a fastpaced media and political environment
  • Selfstarter with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and deliver to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to speak confidently and authoritatively in front of an audience
  • Line management experience
  • Previous experience providing policy and public affairs functions for a membership organisation is desirable
  • Budget management experience (desirable)
