Description

At CDE Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) performance is paramount and to support this prime directive, we wish to appoint a Head of Safety, Health Environment and Quality.


As Head of SHEQ, you will have a pivotal role in delivering and maintaining a robust SHEQ performance regime company wide.

You will be responsible for managing the SHEQ team, ensuring the ongoing development and maintenance of a full functioning SHEQ management system.

You will liaise closely with the management team, becoming a champion relating to all aspects of SHEQ performance, ensuring continuous improvement to our in-house standards, systems and procedures, implementing legislative compliance and best practices across our multidisciplinary team.


You will play a key role in shaping our strategy and ensuring that CDE is an exemplar of SHEQ in our industry, strengthening our current SHEQ legacy with your wide-ranging knowledge and experience.


About The Role

  • Develop, maintain and review all Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) related strategies, policies and procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices throughout the company in accordance with relevant regional legislations and standards.
  • Inspire, motivate and advise colleagues, contractors and suppliers on SHEQ matters and ensure all advice is incorporated into daytoday processes and operations.
  • Be a role model and ambassador for our 'Home Safe Every Day' ethos, educating our teams of its importance and demonstrating positive behaviours that align to this commitment.
  • Develop our company's SHEQ plan and ensure its maintenance and implementation.
  • Provide support and guidance on SHEQ matters throughout all regions.
  • Oversee the HSE Audit process ensuring audits are carried out effectively and used as a tool for positive compliance while developing action plans for areas where improvements are identified.
  • Devise a programme of site audits and safety inspections at customer sites and regional locations.
  • Promote and raise awareness, at all levels in CDE, of the impact of SHEQ issues, whether legislative or best practice, and deliver briefings to the business of any requirements implemented.
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets for SHEQ.
  • Lead H&S Forums and Internal Reviews and implement recommendations where appropriate.
  • Control and ensure all SHEQ company policies remain legally compliant and fitforpurpose by continuous improvement and alterations.
  • Conduct and analyse data from SHEQ audits inhouse and onsite.
  • Regularly review the company's procedure for accident prevention, response and investigations when required and ensure follow up actions are complete.
  • Set Key Performance Indictors (KPI's) and targets for all the SHEQ team and present the team's progress to the Board of Directors.
  • Hold direct managerial responsibility for the SHEQ team.
  • Issue updates and ensure documentation is easily available to all personnel, as well as provide training, when required.
  • Continue to raise awareness and the profile of SHEQ within the business, driving change, communicating with purpose and leading a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Support the Company Mental Health and Wellbeing programme.

Required Criteria

  • NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent) Level 6 in Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Chartered Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).
  • 5 plus years in senior position managing health and safety
  • Thorough understanding of all applicable ISO standards
  • Full understanding of legal HSE guidelines Led and performed site and factory audits.

Desired Criteria

  • Engineering qualification (Mechanical / Electrical).
  • Third level management qualification.
  • A recognised Health and Safety auditing qualification
  • Experience in Sand and Aggregates, Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Recycling, Mining, Quarrying and / or Industrial Sands
