You will be responsible for supporting the Information Governance Manager in providing the following service for both Medway Council and

Gravesham Borough Council:
FoIA, EiR, SAR and wider IG administration.


Working in the Information Governance team, you will help in delivering support and guidance for the handling of personally identifiable information which complies with data protection law and outlines best practice.


About this Senior Information Governance Officer job in Medway, Kent:
The Senior Information Governance Officer role is a cross-functional role across all Medway Council and Gravesham Borough Council directorates, where you will be:

  • Managing and responding to queries received into the Information Governance Inboxes.
  • Logging and processing data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) for high risk initiatives, advise on areas of risk, record risks and decisions made, and follow up on actions with DPIA owners.
  • The completion of legitimate interest assessments to ensure information processing is lawful and any impact on the individual is clearly understood.
  • Assist maintaining the information asset register of council's information assets.
  • Prepare information governance updates and attend the departmental information governance groups meetings.
  • Assist the IG Manager with strategic planning and projects related to supporting both Medway Council and Gravesham Borough Council.
  • Work with senior managers and staff to develop and implement Information Governance statistics, policies and procedures in line with the legislation and best practice.
  • Deputise for the Information Governance Manager where necessary.
  • Assist with investigations into complaints, incidents and breaches relating to the Data Protection Act 2018 and/or GDPR or other IG policies and be the lead contact for the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
  • Manage escalated or complex customer issues within the relevant area.

About you, the ideal Senior Information Governance Officer for the job:

Qualifications

  • Essential_
  • 5 GCSE's including Maths and English (Grades A to C) or equivalent
  • Law Degree or Practitioner Certificate in General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
  • Desirable_
  • Practitioner Certificate in Freedom of Information (or equivalent qualification).
  • Minimum 2 years' experience of working in an information governance environment

Experience

  • Essential_
  • Demonstrable experience of working within related central or local government information governance function
  • An understanding and experience of local government services
  • Knowledge and understanding of public sector obligations in relation to Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR, Freedom of Information Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004, and other relevant legislation relating to information governance.
  • Experience of dealing with and handling difficult situations and complex complaints.
  • Commitment to equality and diversity, seeking to remove barriers that may prevent people accessing services.
  • Excellent customer care skills, with experience of adapting services, where possible, to meet customer needs and can take the initiative to work with other agencies where necessary.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of working with other services and takes a proactive approach towards helping others.
  • Demonstrable experience of coping well under pressure and in difficult situations, able to identify and act on own development needs.

  • The ability to produce regular and timely management information on the progress of the caseload by area
