This opening assignment is for 6 months

NVPPV Level 1 Vetting This role requires an individual who is passionate about ensuring those who are detained in custody, or those animals who support the force as part of our mounted or dog section, are treated appropriately. The role would suit a dynamic individual with excellent organisational skills who will coordinate the PCC's Independent Custody Visiting Scheme and Animal Welfare Scheme.


Key responsibilities:

  • To coordinate the PCC's Independent Custody Visitor (ICV) and Animal Welfare (AWS) Schemes in accordance with the requirements of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, ensuring that the ICV Scheme operates effectively in each of the Merseyside Police Custody Suite locations, and that the AWS operates effectively at Merseyside Police Mounted and Dog Sections.
  • To promote the work of the Scheme to Merseyside communities and partners, attending meetings or events as required to raise awareness of the work, benefits, and opportunities for volunteering within the Scheme.
  • To administer the Scheme, including collecting the results of ICV and AWS visits, which should be completed by the volunteers on a standard report form, recording the results, and highlights risk and issues at the earliest opportunity to the appropriate person or department, and to review and manage Scheme member expense forms.   • To arrange, attend, and record the contents of meetings, ensuring that records of the meeting detail any outstanding actions, risks, and issues, alongside good practice where this is identified and manage and arrange the ICV and AWS annual networking event.
  • To ensure that volunteers are suitably trained to complete their role through induction training and continual professional development. The post holder will arrange training events for those new to the scheme.
  • To complete written progress reports as required including for the PCC's Annual Report, Police and Crime Panel Reports, Key Decision Papers, and other reports as necessary or as directed by the PCC

  • The ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships will colleagues at different levels across the organisation.
  • A proficiency with various I.T packages including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, incorporating an ability to produce highquality documents for the attention of the PCC and wider teams within the PCC office.
