Main duties of the job:


  • Supervision and management of cohorts of longterm transplant patients and haemodialysis patients at Tottenham Hale Kidney Care centre incl. weekly clinics, MDTs and supervision of a nursing clinic for the former cohort
  • Supervision and management of a specialist clinic as per the needs of the service
  • Once weekly biopsy list including both native and transplanted kidneys
  • Weekly biopsy planning MDT
  • Commitment to the 1:9 consultant of the week nephrology and renal transplant on call rota at RFH, incl. AM handover, daily ward round of around 30 inpatients, discharge planning and review of all new admissions under nephrology. The activity includes weekend working and out of hours advice during the week on call. All routine clinic activity is cancelled during oncall duties
  • Attendance at weekly Xray meeting, renal pathology meeting and academic afternoon at RFH
  • Support of IPC and antimicrobial stewardship activities
  • Participation in the supervision and training of specialty trainees and clinical scientists, teaching of other junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate
  • Participation in the undergraduate teaching programme
  • Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement
  • Participation in service development and policy review
  • Participation in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisal and revalidation

  • Broad experience in general clinical nephrology and subspecialty experience in transplantation
  • Training and education of undergraduate and postgraduate students

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • CCT or CESR in renal medicine or interview within 6 months of CCT date
  • MD or PhD
  • Research and publication record in renal medicine or transplantation

Skills and aptitudes:

  • Strong teaching skills and experience
  • Understanding of clinical governance and audit procedures
