Job description:


  • This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of BEIS as Delivery Business Partner for Corporate Services (CS), embedded within the Chief Operating Officer (COO)'s office, with formal management and reporting line(s) into the BEIS Project Profession.
  • You will be the focal point for Risk Management and Project Delivery within the CS Group:
  • Providing expert advice and management information (MI) to the COO, their Chief of Staff and the central Head of Project Delivery on performance and risk to support successful delivery of CS objectives, outcomes and portfolio
  • Working effectively with CS teams, SROs and the Implementation and Delivery Directorate (IDD) to ensure compliance with Departmental standards, agreed ways of working and protocols, and adoption of best practice and tools
  • Line managing IDD project delivery staff as part of matrix management operational approach.

Person specification:


  • Act as an interlocutor between CS and IDD central teams, with a shared focus on successful delivery, compliance with agreed protocols and processes, and adoption of BEIS / Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) best practice tools, techniques and approaches
  • Present regular MI updates to the COO and their senior leadership team (SLT) on overall performance and delivery of the group against agreed KPIs and Corporate Scorecard
  • Facilitate conversations with the SLT on their approach to managing risks and issues, sharing expert advice and surfacing choices as appropriate to guide their decision making
  • Build close working relationships with senior leaders in each Corporate Services directorate to understand the development needs of their teams and help troubleshoot issues reducing thee delivery confidence
  • Lead a migration in Corporate Services to the new BEIS project delivery platform (Verto), establishing a single source of the truth for our project and programme information so that data can be visualised and shared to support rich conversations and better decision making amongst our senior leaders
  • Provide appropriate and timely professional advice, support and challenge to the Group's programmes and projects to help them deliver against their plans, effectively manage risks and issues, and navigate BEIS' governance processes and appropriate assurance review(s)
  • Build and maintain a community of project delivery professionals in the CS Group, supporting colleagues to develop their skills and experience in the project delivery function, and embedding consistent ways of working across the CS portfolio, with a particular focus on improving risk and issue management.
Operating within a matrix management framework- Provide good quality line management to assigned IDD colleagues, in line with Departmental and IDD expectations, supporting their professional development, ensuring they have the skills to deliver their objectives and opportunities to grow and develop
