Description

We consider Peer Support Worker to be an expert through their own lived experience of mental health issues and recovery.

You will be an integral and valued part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Mental Health Nurses, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, Early Years Practitioners and Clinical Lead.

Your experience will allow you to understand the human side of care and treatment for perinatal mental health issues and assist the team to ensure that this is always presented in a meaningful and compassionate way.

You will be an active participant in your own recovery and the recovery of service users by forming trusting relationships with service users to support them in their understanding of their mental health.

Using appropriate self-disclosure of your journey to model recovery and inspire confidence, hope and optimism. You will be supported by the team and receive regular supervision to support you clinically, managerially and emotionally. You must proactively seek such support as needed.

This post is designed to work collaboratively together with the service user and mental health professionals to support the service user to navigate services and their recovery.


You will forge relationships with the local community and other services to support the service user to be as included in the community as they want to be.

You will augment the emotional resilience of the community by supporting colleagues with the implementation of resilience sessions within schools and colleges.

You will be an advocate for the service users and the service and ensure that the service is always service user focussed and recovery based.

Proactively seeking and encouraging service user involvement in care and coproduction of service development.


You will engage clients who may be difficult to engage and provide a humanistic and holistic support to them to support them to develop a trusting and meaningful relationship with the team.

Working within a recovery focus to support plans of care aiming to build the service users confidence to live fulfilling lives.

You will provide peer support interventions as needed to promote recovery values such as Connectedness, Hope, Identity, Meaning and Empowerment.

In order to achieve this you will support the development of personal recovery plans and provide opportunities to achieve goals on the plan.

This may be in the form of Emotional support Promoting choice and self-determination Supporting socially valued roles such as sports or relationships Providing groups such as a social group One to one support You will attend training to ensure you are up to date with current best practice, both mandatory training and additional training as the team manager sees appropriate


MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
To act as a specialist resource within the service, by offering a unique perspective to service users. To act as an expert on recovery resources.

To facilitate positive culture change within the workplace, as defined by system leadership Work in a culturally sensitive way for all service users, tailoring service to meet their individual needs, challenging stigma and discrimination, advocating for person if appropriate, and ensuring up-to-date community knowledge.

Work with a range of needs e.g.

first time parents, those who have experienced previous perinatal mental health needs, young people, LGBT service users, disabled people and with people with a range of backgrounds and ethnicity.

Communication Build trusting and collaborative professional relationships with the service users Communicate clinical and non-clinical information in a non-judgemental and understandable way to a variety of stakeholders, service users and other agencies.

Ensure that confidentiality is maintained within the boundaries of NAViGO policy and legal responsibilities Be approachable and a great active listener so you encourage engagement of young people with yourself and the service.

To document all contacts on the electronic patient record system.

Patient care To implement interventions in support of care plans and care packages as delegated by qualified members of the team.

Support service users with their plans of care Provide interventions in a variety of settings as per the service users choice, Be sensitive to cultural norms and preferences Provide advice and support to service users and carers on navigating mental health services and other issues as needed.

To work in collaboration with other key stakeholders e.g.

housing, employment, education and primary care, and third sector voluntary agencies. Advocate for the rights and needs of service users wherever needed. Under indirect supervision provide appropriate self-disclosure to inspire hope and optimism to model service user recovery. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Promote the organisations missions and values.
