The Design Coordinator will manage, collate and submit essential project information, dates and documentation to GMI client teams.


General Summary

Main Role Responsibilities

  • Coordinating all aspects of the Project Design.
  • Monitor all incoming documents from the design team and check for compliance against the project protocol.
  • Review and manager project information trackers.
  • Liaise with the project and design teams.
  • Meeting and adhering to the clients brief / requirements, including legislation and contracts.
  • Arranging and leading any Design team meetings to control the process with the consultants, subcontract, and designers, issuing minutes and ensuring the resulting actions are followed up.
  • Collate and manage the contract specifications, drawing and related documents for the construction process.
  • Carry out drawing reviews & issuing comments to ensure that all references are added accordingly to the design.
  • Offer input and design reviews into the procurement process.
  • Review and implement value engineering and programme opportunities.
  • Providing design support to Project Management & Estimator teams.
  • Produce and maintain Design Execution Plan (DEP) on a projectbyproject basis and ensure all design consultants agree and sign the document prior to contract award.
  • Drafting and writing scope of services documents on a projectbyproject basis ensuring all design consultants offer their full services without scope gaps as per the DRM in line with their fees.
  • Review design consultant appointment documents and ensuring the wording aligns with the project and GMI's aspirations without any scope gaps.
  • Utilise specialist consultants, coordinating the information and design to ensure the required certification complies. I.e BREEAM, HQMPart L etc.
  • Coordinate the submission of information to satisfy Building Control compliance.
  • Coordinate the submission of information to satisfy all planning conditions are discharged.
  • Lead Design review workshop with the clients to ensure understanding and satisfaction with proposed works.
  • Manage the Design Change Proposals for client sign off.
  • Issue RDD Schedule (Reviewable Design Data) to the client team coordinated with your MIRS and procurement programme. Recording, tracking, and closing out any comments and queries which may arise.
  • Issue, track and close out any Requests for Information (RFIs) or Technical Design Queries (TQs) that arise to enable the design to be completed.
  • Storage of all documentation in SharePoint in accordance with the company's information management policy and guidelines.
  • Meticulous record keeping of all relevant paperwork utilising the operating framework.
  • Uphold the Company's vision and values within our conduct at work.
You will develop skills in AutoCAD and other software and have the opportunity to undertake day-release education to obtain the HNC Level 4 in Construction Management


What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The qualification you will gain is: Construction Design & Build Technician Level 4

How will it be delivered:


  • 2 1⁄2 Year Apprenticeship Programme
  • CDBT Skills, Knowledge & Behaviours assessed in the workplace.
  • Level 4 HNC Construction and the Built Environment
  • Day release in Barnsley or remote delivery


  • End Point Assessment

  • Project, Interview & Online Test

Apprentices must show commitment to the following:

  • To achieve apprenticeship standard within the specified time frame
  • Attend the apprenticeship induction programme.
  • Attend all of the training sessions for the programme whenever necessary.
  • Undertake any other required development work as part of the apprenticeship programme
