Allotments are an integral part of the council's vision Towards a fairer Gainsborough.

The Town Council is now looking for an Allotment Officer to help develop our allotments and build meaningful relationships with our plot holders and partners.


  • Be the first point of contact for plot holders and prospective plot holders and passing information from the Town Council.
  • Managing, updating and maintaining the Council's proprietary allotments management software. Typical tasks will include but not be limited to
  • Maintenance of the Allotment Register and Plans
  • Management of waiting lists
  • Be responsible for the day to day running of the allotments.
Typical tasks will include but not be limited to:


  • Allocating plots to new tenants and issuing all relevant paperwork including contracts, formal and informal notices etc.
  • Managing annual renewals including annual invoicing in collaboration with the Deputy Town Clerk.
  • Receiving and issuing all allotment related correspondence and notices in consultation with the Operations Manager.
  • Issuing written permission for structures that conform to the rules as set out in the Terms and Conditions and maintaining appropriate records within the software.
  • Education and persuasion in relation to non-cultivation, illegal activity and breaches of the terms and conditions and recommendations leading to formal proceedings.
  • Carry out annual or if required more frequent inspections of all plots and record all findings within the software.
  • Report to the relevant committee at least quarterly on allotment issues such as but not limited to vacant plots, waiting lists, inspections etc.
  • Monitor the condition of individual allotments and liaise with tenants, as appropriate, to ensure the completion of any remedial work required as part of regular documented inspections.
  • Resolve issues arising with and between tenants, referring difficult or policy issues to the relevant committee.
  • Restore abandoned or overgrown plots with support from the grounds maintenance team or an approved contractor.
  • Arrange for mowing, strimming and weedkilling in the common areas of the allotments working closely with the grounds maintenance team leader.
  • Maintain and update the allotment notice boards
  • Review adopted policies relating to the allotments and recommend any amendments to the relevant committee in consultation with the Operations Manager.
  • Maintain good security on all sites and be responsible for bringing all health and safety issues on the sites to the council's attention.
  • Build a sense of community by having regular meetings with site secretaries and helping to facilitate events such as open days.
  • To promote the allotment gardens to the wider community working towards full occupancy in collaboration with appropriate partners / agencies, including healthy diet, physical activity, obesity and mental wellbeing.
  • To liaise with contractors to arrange any repairs to the sites.
  • Assessing and organising removal of waste.
  • To carry out their duties in accordance with the Council's Health and Safety policies and procedures and in keeping with the wider policies of the Council.
  • All other reasonable ad hoc administrative and project-based duties as directed by the Town Clerk that are consistent with the general scope of the post.
  • To attend training and professional development as required.

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract


Salary:
£24,054.00-£24,948.00 per year
