An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Radiology Admin Team for a Band 2 Receptionist at the Great Western Hospital.

Radiology is an exciting and varied department where there is much to learn and experience.

The receptionists are the contact point for all visitors and patients to the department and are key in the smooth running of the department.

When the patients arrive the receptionist will update and track electronically on CRIS (Computerised Radiology Information System) alerting clinical staff that patients have arrived.

The post-holders should have excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

The right person will have good keyboard skills, enjoy working in a busy and varied environment and enjoy being able to both work on their own with limited supervision and as part of a team.

Working in an Administration Team to efficiently undertake basic administration and clerical duties which will include the following duties:

  • 1. To provide reception cover in one of our 3 reception areas, receiving patients and tracking their arrival electronically on the Computerised Radiology Information System.
  • Entering paper referrals on the Computerised Radiology Information system and scanning the request on to the electronic patient records.
  • Accept orders electronically from electronic requesting system to the Computerised Radiology Information System.
  • Arrive and track patients on the Computerised Radiology Information System allowing for a smooth patient journey.
  • Send referral electronically to appropriate Radiologist for vetting if required.
  • Ascertain whether patients are NHS, fee paying or overseas visitors.
  • When necessary calculate private patient fees completing all necessary paperwork.

  • To direct patients to the correct waiting area.
  • Communicate effectively to patients any time delays for appointments.
  • Receive any visitors to the Department and direct to appropriate person.
  • To deal with enquiries. Ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times when dealing with highly sensitive clinical details and reports, in accordance with the Trust Confidentiality Policy, maintaining a working knowledge of hospital systems so that enquiries can be dealt with efficiently.
  • Contact wards regarding in-patient appointments and organise portering.
  • Liaise with different teams within Radiology ensuring good patient experiences.
  • Attend and take part in team meetings and regular reviews with your Line Manager. Attend meetings and participate in relevant training programmes as requested by the organisation.
  • To be a flexible and supportive member of the Administration Team
