An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic individual to undertake a significant and rewarding role, within the Quality Governance team at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.


We are looking to recruit a Health and Safety Advisor, who will support the Head of Risk Management to improve health, safety and risk compliance across the Trust, leading on inspections, training and policy and procedural development.


The post holder will have responsibility for the leadership and improvement a strategy in the area of health and safety to create a culture in which health and safety is embedded at all levels of the organisation.

The post holder has responsibility for professional leadership and improvement strategies in the area of health and safety.

The post holder will assist the Head of Risk Management in developing the health and safety risk management framework within the Trust.

The post holder will lead in creating a culture and environment in which health and safety is embedded at all levels in the organisation to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, patient-centred services.


The post holder will provide, via the Director of Finance the required assurances to the Trust Board and Executive that health and safety arrangements are fit for purpose, having been tested and scrutinised.


The post holder will develop and deliver throughout the Trust a culture of continuous improvement and will assist in the provision of a Trust wide health and safety function, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and creating a culture of improvement.

The post holder will be a member of the Quality Governance Team.

  • The role is to assist the Trust in providing strong strategic leadership and to provide uptodate expertise in Health & Safety and Risk Management, to the Trust, working with the lead Executive Director
  • Assist in the design, delivery and evaluation of relevant and effective health and safety training across the Trust
  • To be part of, work with and positively support the Trust in demonstrating compliance against NHS Standards/Regulations and Health and Safety Legislation leading on specific areas where appropriate
  • To assist Trust staff in delivering the risk assessment process and status of risks via the risk register through the provision of professional advice and practical support in clinical and nonclinical areas of the Trust
  • To assist with the development of health and safety team action plans and ensure effective
  • To communicate and cooperate with all key stakeholders on issues involving the health, safety and welfare of staff, patients and others who may be affected by its
  • To assist in leading with compliance with the Health and Safety legislation in support of and in conjunction with Executive and professional leads.
  • To be the Trust lead for Health and Safety in the provision of a comprehensive health and safety service throughout the organisation. To ensure the delivery of high standards of health and safety management in the working environment, with safe practices relative to staff, patients, contractors and other users of the Trust's premises.
  • Assist in the inspection and audit of performance against relevant policies, guidance and legislation.
  • Encouraging effective working between occupational health, human resources and managers to deliver an improved and effective health and safety culture within the organisation.
  • To inform the Head of Risk Management of any high risks as they occur and ensure they are kept updated.
  • To advise all levels of staff, including the executive team across all Trust sites, on their health and safety responsibilities and the relevance of health and safety where there may be barriers to understanding. This includes facetoface meetings, written communications, reports, attendance at a wide range of meetings and committees and verbal communications when dealing with specific incidents.
  • To establish and maintain contact with Health and Safety Leads, ensuring that they are kept updated of appropriate issues.
  • To interpret the range of complex health & safety legislation and ensure that the key messages are communicated to all levels of staff including those where English is not their first language.
  • To have relevant communications with the Health & Safety Executive and any other enforcement
