We harness the talents and experience of our founding and long-established leading Welsh Charities CAIS, Hafal, and WCADA in their fields, enabling our projects to meet the needs of our most vulnerable with a single, unified, and comprehensive approach.


Hours:
Variable (minimum 6 hours hours)

This is a 24-hour/ 7-day week service with 6-hour shift patterns


Salary:
£22,387.61 per annum (pro rata)

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a brand-new service providing practical and therapeutic support to children and young people, across Neath Port Talbot and Swansea, experiencing episodes of mental distress in a non-clinical setting.

The team will provide advice, guidance and early interventions that aim to keep children and young people accessing the service safe and help to improve their mental wellbeing.


The Support Worker plays a pivotal role in providing a safe and supportive environment for children and young people in need.

Reporting to the Senior Support Worker, this position is responsible for delivering high-quality support, and contributing to the overall success of the service.


The role of the Support Worker is crucial to ensuring that children and young people receive the appropriate intervention they need during difficult times.

This role demands a compassionate and resilient individual who is capable of providing guidance, and advocacy to service users.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide a 24/7, nonclinicalbased service to children and young people (up to the age of 18), with bed provision available.
  • Provide direct support to children and young people experiencing episodes of mental distress.
  • To respond and effectively manage all new and current referrals, whilst providing specialist 1:1 support to all children and young people accessing the service; via facetoface and telephone contact.
  • Provide a safe space for individuals to turn to (and the concerned others, if appropriate) experiencing social/emotional crisis, mental distress, anxiety, panic attacks, depression and/or having suicidal thoughts.
  • Identify appropriate services and resources based on the individual's presenting needs and signpost/make referrals as necessary.
  • Encourage and support individuals to access appropriate services and resources as required.
  • Develop an individual's resilience by enabling them to selfmanage and find their own solutions to their crisis in a nonjudgemental, empathetic and respectful way.
  • Provide a welcoming environment to deescalate and be supported in a relaxed atmosphere, either in a 11 or more informal group/social setting.
  • Facilitate a communal area where individuals can relax, engage in activities, read a book etc. either on their own or in the company of others as appropriate.
  • Facilitate practical interventions including meals, beverages, laundry facilities, etc.
  • To ensure all client contacts are accurately recorded on the database system.
  • Support individuals in developing a shortterm recovery plan for the proceeding hours/days/weeks, as appropriate.
  • Ensuring service user feedback in the form of compliment, comments and complaints are encouraged and recorded.
  • Actively contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure the service is effective, accountable, and able to promptly identify concerns, taking advice and action to swiftly address them.
  • To ensure the safety of all service users is maintained.
  • Complete all training, as required.
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies (including statutory, nonstatutory and third sector) to ensure the best outcome for the individual.
  • Effectively liaise and maintain positive relationships with all Health Board/Schools/third sector agencies within Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.
  • Work flexibly, including actively participating in the rota which includes unsocial hours, weekends and public holidays.
  • Must work effectively as part of a team, work supportively with management and other coworkers when on shift.
  • To actively promote the service within the community, at events, online presentations/meetings, workshops, schools, media etc. and building relationships with potential referral partners.
  • To carry out all other tasks commensurate with the role.
  • As with all employees, workers and volunteers; to encourage people to join Adferiad as a member.
