Description
**We are looking for a committed Care Worker to provide support in a very rural location for two brothers within the family home and out in the community.

Both boys have a diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and require support with the following tasks:


Needs of Younger Brother 8 hours per week (11 years old)

  • Help getting up in the morning, support with personal care, toileting and dressing, getting ready for school. Monday to Friday mornings termtime only between 7am 8am (30 mins)
  • Future help with using the toileting needs will be required when mobility declines
  • Help with retrieving objects from the floor and be hoisted off the floor into a chair as he cannot get up from the floor
  • Help with showering/bathing, drying, undressing, cleaning his teeth and getting ready for bed twice a week on a Wednesday and Sunday evenings between 7pm 10pm (1.5 hrs)

Use of Equipment:


Training in the use of hoists and slings will be provided

  • He uses a powerchair when outside of the house
  • He has a ceiling hoist to hoist him into and out of the shower or bath chair

Needs of Older Brother 8 Hours per week (13 years old)

  • Support with getting out of bed Monday to Friday morning termtime only between 7am 8am (30 mins). Support with using a ceiling hoist, toileting, dressing, cleaning his teeth and getting ready for school
  • Help with showering/bathing, drying, undressing, cleaning his teeth and getting ready for bed twice a week on a Wednesday and Sunday evenings between 7pm 10pm (1.5 hrs)
  • Assistance with drinking and doing activities as he has very limited use of his arms

Use of Equipment:


  • He uses a powerchair when inside and outside of the house
  • He has a ceiling hoist to hoist him into and out of the shower or bath

Activities and Support for Both Boys

  • The support will involve taking the boys out into the local community, including going to a cafe, or going for a walk 3 hours per week
  • The boys' hobbies and interests include eating out, playing video games, lego, and watching movies.
  • There will be a requirement to support with medication administration for both boys through a dosette box. As well as some moving and handling; including the use of a hoist.

Full training and demonstration will be provided.
**_Due to the nature of their disability, the successful applicant will be required to always ensure their safety.

A Summary of the Main Duties:
  • To support both boys individually to access age appropriate activities both at home and in the wider community
  • To provide support to the family through carers relief for parents
  • To build a relationship with the client understanding their nature and communication skills
  • To provide support with personal care as and when required.
  • To ensure the boys are kept safe from all risks and dangers

Hours:


64 hours (approx. 16 hours per week) within a 4-week period to be used flexibly to meet the needs of the family, morning/evening and weekend support required.

Rates of pay:

- £15.04 per hour. 5.6 weeks holiday (pro rata)


Due to the rural location, a car driver is essential and you must have Business Insurance.
