Our Burns and Plastic Ward is seeking to recruit a Housekeeper on a permanent part time hour) basis.

You will work as an integral member of the team to facilitate a clean and safe ward environment.

On a daily basis, the housekeeper will liaise with the ward manager/senior nurse on duty and nursing staff to identify and undertake all nonclinical tasks, to establish a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere and environment for patients, visitors and staff.


The job description is not exhaustive and requires the post holder to be flexible to meet the needs of the developing service.

To ensure the ward is safe and tidy at all times, e.g. remove clutter, tidy notice boards, signage etc.

Formulate a regular cleaning programme of all ward/patient equipment, chairs and drip stands, trolleys, ward furniture, ensuring it is in good working order

To identify any problems with cleanliness and report to the ward sister.

To ensure specialist cleaning of surfaces and furnishings eg steam cleaning of pushchairs and highchairs

Ensure clean utility/clinical store is kept tidy, informing nursing staff of any problems with stock levels

Liaise with distribution as directed by Team Leader or senior nurse in charge

Ensure the equipment room is kept clean and tidy and that all equipment is clean, stored safely and in good repair
- ready for clinical use. Report any broken/defective equipment to the trusts helps desk or other relevant departments

Check level of linen, ensuring that linen is rotated and cupboard is kept fully stocked at all times

To maintain and update paper-based records and information as required.

General administrative duties including photocopying and laminating.

Maintain good levels of communication with the ward based nursing team and work closely with the multi-disciplinary team e.g. Procurement, Medical Equipment Library, Bio-Medical Engineering, Pharmacy and Pathology, Infection Control Team/link nurses
