  • We have an outstanding opportunity for a Principal level consultant to support and develop our services in Scotland, and are looking for someone with demonstrable expert knowledge of sustainable waste and resource management and with experience of developing and delivering resource efficiency and sustainability initiatives into a diverse portfolio of clients across the UK.
  • SLR is in a period of ambitious growth and to meet client needs we wish to strengthen our offering in the resource management and sustainability sector. We are looking for an ambitious individual, with a proven track record in winning new work, leading projects, and who can assist with pushing forward the development of this core business area.
  • The Sustainable Waste Management team has extensive experience of providing practical advice on all waste types, including municipal, household, commercial, industrial, hazardous, agricultural, and mining waste. Our specialisms are expanding to meet the challenges associated with sustainability, circular economy and climate impacts, allowing us to provide comprehensive resource management services to clients.
  • Our client & technical service offerings include:
  • Public sector waste support (e.g. strategy development, options analysis and contract procurement);
  • Private sector waste companies (e.g. bid development);
  • Advice to the financial sector (e.g. due diligence);
  • Construction Companies and Waste Technology Providers;
  • Waste strategy, options appraisal and plan development; and
  • Waste logistics.
We provide a hybrid working environment, but also see the benefit in our staff having access to one of our offices to engage with colleagues - in this instance, due to a growing number of projects and opportunities in Scotland we are specifically looking for someone to join us in our Edinburgh office (Glasgow or Stirling also possible office locations) playing a key role in identifying and leading projects for Scottish clients while also working alongside our multidisciplinary teams across our UK offices

About the role:


We are looking for someone with sound, up to date experience and technical expertise within the resources and waste management sector.

You will have an understanding of, and experience of working with, local authorities and private sector clients across projects as diverse as strategy development, service reviews and modelling, options analysis, feasibility studies, contract procurement, and market assessments.

Ideally this will be through experience gained across both collections and treatment services.

  • The postholder will lead project management and delivery tasks and support bid development and business development activities. You will be confident in leading waste data management tasks, and developing waste flow modelling and carbon assessments.

The main objectives of the role will be to:


  • Play a leading role in the ongoing growth of the Sustainable Waste Management team, identifying and reacting to opportunities identified using both reactive and proactive approaches.
  • Keep abreast of latest developments across the UK waste sector, including policy / legislative drivers, new infrastructure developments, secondary materials market dynamics and commercial trends.
  • Support local authority clients through service reviews, identifying and presenting service improvement opportunities, legislative compliance, best practice and innovation.
  • Provide technical support for local authority and private sector clients for contract procurement, and further supporting the development of tender documentation for contractors.
  • Contribute to the development of high quality and successful proposals, meeting SLR's strategic and financial objectives.
