Full Time, all year round, permanent role, commencing as soon as possible.

Salary - United Learning Support Staff Pay Scale (depending on qualifications and experience) from £20,450 per annum to £24,000 per annum (not inclusive of the cost-of-living increase which we expect to be implemented in the Autumn Term)


William Hulme's Grammar School (WHGS) is a well-established 3-18 Academy and is the most over-subscribed school in Greater Manchester with a long and distinguished history.

A vacancy has arisen for a
Caretaker to work all year round across all phases of the school.


Reporting to the Assistant/Facilities Manager, the duties will include:

  • Opening up and locking up of the school buildings
  • Driving the school minibuses/van as required
  • Distribution of deliveries around the site
  • Banking
  • Preparing for school events setting up meeting rooms and assembly halls
  • Working as part of a team to keep the school tidy and in good repair

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Numerate and literate (ideally with English and Maths GCSE)
  • Already doing a similar role
  • Able and willing to undertake a variety of tasks around the school
  • A team player, who is proactive and is able to work on their own initiative as required
  • Physically fit in order to carry out manual work
  • Able to communicate effectively with all members of the school community
  • Adaptable, versatile, patient and trustworthy
  • Able to work within existing shift patterns (rotating between early starts and late finishes) and including some weekend work and willingness to cover for Hirings Officer.

William Hulme's Grammar School is the second most over-subscribed school in Manchester and one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country.

WHGS is an all-through Academy of over 1450 pupils with a wide range of abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds.


The Academy has a relatively new Sixth Form Centre, a two-form entry Primary Phase and has specialist rooms in the Secondary Phase, including fully equipped science labs, a library, ICT resource centre, music practice rooms, design, technology and art rooms.

There is also a sports hall with changing facilities, along with full kitchen and dining facilities in the Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form.
