Join our team in North Tyneside and you will work as part of a two-person team maintaining drainage systems across the district.

You will work on a variety of drainage related issues including emergencies like blockages and cleaning pipes during maintenance programmes.

Gully Operative - Highways & Drainage


What you'll be doing:


  • Receive and carry out instructions from Safety Defects Manager, ensuring works are completed to given timescales, are of high quality to enhance service resilience against flooding and that residents are reassured through a positive experience.
  • You will work on a variety of drainage related issues including emergencies like blockages and cleaning pipes during maintenance programmes
  • As well as Highways work, occasional work on sites of major schemes, supporting and mapping state of existing piping.
  • Able to manage a variety of risks, hazards and identify changing site and environmental conditions.
  • Ensure that excellent customer care is implemented to residents and service partners, must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively as working as part of a twoperson team or on own as required.

What we are looking for:


  • Experience of working on or near the highway. (Desirable)
  • To understand and be responsible for their own safety and that of others, including pedestrians and contractors.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather extremes
  • Able to take responsibility for plant, equipment, and vehicle defect inspections
  • Full, clean driving licence.
