Imagine your 'office' being located in the heart of Canterbury Cathedral_


We are looking for a new recruit to join the friendly cleaning team who consistently work to present Canterbury Cathedral to a high standard of cleanliness and wellbeing to the visiting public, and who prepare the Cathedral furniture for events.


The role of the Assistant Caretaker will include:
carrying out everyday manual cleaning tasks within the Cathedral Nave, Quire/Trinity and Crypt and other communal areas to include dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, spot cleaning of spillages, emptying bins, cleaning toilets and sanitising surfaces when directed;

moving and setting out chairs and furniture in preparation for services and concerts, as required;

routine maintenance of all equipment and the notifying cleaning materials;

and assisting the flower arrangers by providing the mechanics and flower removal, when requested.


To thrive in this role within this unique working environment, you will need to be comfortable with everyday manual work, have excellent standards of hygiene practices, have a willingness to learn and to take instruction, be organised and hold the ability to work under your own initiative but also as part of a team - alongside the Cathedral's Virgers.

You should also be at ease interacting with staff members at all levels and members of the public.


This role is offered on a part-time basis of 20 hours per week, which will normally be worked 8.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday, however there will be the requirement to work the occasional weekend shifts, additional overtime hours and on public holidays.
