Description

We are looking for an experiencing Mental Health Practitioner with a UK Professional Registration to join our fast-growing fast-paced Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) in South East Essex.


MHST's are a new service designed to support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties within education settings.

We are a multidisciplinary team made up of Children and Young People's Mental Health Practitioners and Education Mental Health Practitioners.


MHSTs aims to:


  • Support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems through evidencebased interventions
  • Support schools in developing their whole school approach to mental health
  • Provide timely advice to school staff and to liaise with other services to help children and young people get the right help and stay in education.
South East Essex supports up to 36,000 young people across a variety of different education settings.

The post-holder will be a graduate qualified health care professional and ideally have formal CBT training for example:

  • Qualified CBT Therapist
  • Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)
  • Children Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP)
  • Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT)
  • Children and Young People-IAPT (CYP-IAPT)


They will work in partnership with schools, children, young people, and families in the development of plans for the intervention and agreed outcomes.


To support the Clinical Lead with the formulation and treatment and management plans for schools, parents, children, and young people using a range of specialist psychological interventions appropriate to the service, individual and group.

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,108 and a maximum payment of £5,177 per annum).

The responsibilities/expectations of the Senior Clinician and Supervisor are:

  • To effectively manage a small caseload of CYP with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  • Provide caseload management and supervision to Education Mental Health Practitioner's (EMHPs) and Senior Mental Health Practitioner's (SMHPs).
  • To undertake further educational development as part of the role.
  • To support in the delivery of evidencebased CBT.
  • Working in partnership with schools/colleges and other educational settings.
  • Provide support and training opportunities to a variety of team members and other professionals/trainees.
  • To work as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team within your locality but also with other MHSTs within Essex
  • To support and develop the interventions that can be delivered as part of the MHST within the education setting.
  • Being able to work as part of a team and autonomously.
  • Ensuring appropriate access to MHST support for CYP.
  • Completion of thorough assessments, risk assessments, care planning and reviews.
  • To ensure that there is accurate documentation, and that Routine Outcome Measures are completed.
  • Appropriately raise safeguarding concerns were identified and to support colleagues with this process.
