  • The role of an Investigative Support Officer (ISO), within the specialised investigation teams at Protective Services Crime, is to perform a complex case building function. This includes acting as disclosure officer for the investigations into the most serious and complex criminality that results in the successful prosecution of offenders.
  • The role involves preparing complex prosecution files for serious offences, undertaking further evidential enquiries, acting as the conduit between the investigation team and CPS/Counsel, and attending court for hearings and trials. ISOs are required to hold a CILEX certificate of Criminal Justice Administration, or equivalent qualification such as A Level Law or BTEC Level 3 in Law.
  • Presently, there are two roles within the Serious Organised Crime Team and one within the Economic Crime Unit. Both form part of Protective Services, Crime.
  • Serious and Organised Crime (SOC) Team
  • Working closely with the 5 district Organised Crime teams, the SOC teams are responsible for the management, investigation, and disruption of a number of OCGs (Organised Crime Groups), Gangs and County Line criminality. The work focuses on those that present the greatest threat, risk and harm to the public such as the criminal use and supply of firearms, large scale drugs supply and criminality involving use of vulnerable persons. The investigations are complex but exciting, with each one differing in nature. Within SOC, you would be part of a team of some of the most highly skilled detectives in the force.
  • Economic Crime Unit (ECU)
  • The threat, harm and loss caused by fraud and money laundering is seen as one of the greatest challenges facing the police, with offences increasingly becoming more complex, sophisticated, and linked to other serious criminality. Central to this, is role of the ISO within the ECU. This provides a unique opportunity to make a positive contribution at the heart of investigations to tackle the serious organised crime threat of illicit finance and the prosecution of offenders under Proceeds of Crime (POCA), Fraud Act and other relevant legislation.
  • The nature of criminal investigations undertaken are diverse in nature and include those relating to professional enablers, thus necessitating the management and handling of special procedure / legally privileged material. Enablers in this category include a range of professionals with specialist knowledge of an organisation and their processes, such as solicitors; allowing them to use their professional status to facilitate fraud related offending, as well as offering opportunities for serious and organised criminals to launder significant amounts of money.The post is suitable for job share.
