Description
The Role - Graduate Engineer
Reporting to:
Project Manager\ConstructionManager\SiteManager\Senior Engineer
Coordinates the daily engineering work activities on site as part of a project, in line with the programme of work to complete a project
Some duties include:
Conducting surveys and maintaining engineering control
Checking drawings
Collating project data
Producing and maintaining project records
Technical
- Ensure all activities are carried out to the contract specification and technical requirement
- Compile and issue technical queries as and when required
- Undertake simple design calculations and detailing
- Assist with project reports and project meetings where appropriate
- Support the site teams responsible for undertaking the works in accordance with technical requirements and specifications
- Carry out setting out of the works as required
- Carry out and assist with calculations, surveys, production of site sketches and drawings
- Obtain all "asbuilt" information ensuring that it is accurate and relevant
Communications
- Attend site team meetings to discuss progress, programme and methodology
- Record meetings and inform the relevant people i.e. Project\Construction Manager giving clear, accurate and concise information
- Carry out briefings as directed by the Site\Project\Construction manager
Quality
- Conduct site quality checks and records
- Monitor project work in accordance with its quality standards
- Complete site works control sheets
Health and Safety & Environmental
- Assists the manager(s) with carrying out weekly audits ensuring compliance with safety management systems
- Conduct toolbox talks and assists with COSHH and environmental assessments
- Support a healthy, safe and productive work environment
- Ensure that safe working and environmental practices are complied with
- Ensure that records regarding Health and Safety and the work environment are complete, accurate and comply with organisational and legal requirements
- Take measures to minimise waste and protect the environment
- Ensure that control measures in place are at all times operable and not interfered with and that personal protective equipment, where appropriate, is used
- Ensure that operations are carried out to a safe and approved system of work, resulting in there being a mínimal risk to persons, equipment and materials
- Assist with the preparation of method statements and risk assessments (if trained to do so)
- Assist with planning and maintaining a tidy working area, including safe access to and egress from the work site and delivery onto and stacking of materials on site.
- Liaise with the client and other contractors on site
Commercial:
- Assist with measurement, valuations, capture information and advise the appropriate manager as necessary
- Produce record sheets and daily allocation sheets
- Log, store and maintain information, records and correspondence on a daytoday basis, in line with organisational and legal requirements
Operational
- Ensure all site personnel are familiar with all site specific QC\QA processes
- Coordinate site preparation of work controls systems and simple programs
- Carry out material take off and produces material schedules
- Ensure that materials are in accordance with the specification
- Assist the Project\Construction Manager in developing efficient work methods and techniques ensuring that the best use of resources are made
General
- Inform the appropriate manager on a regular basis about any engineering or related project issues
- Report all accidents and occurrences to the Site\Construction\Project Manager
- Assist with material reconciliations and plant requisitions
- Requirement to undertake shift work including nights, days and weekends
- Work in accordance with Network Rail Groups Standards, HE standards and Codes of Practice of our client.
- Any other range of duties that are reasonably required by the company to carry out the role
- Preferably 1 years' experience working as a Graduate in the construction industry (minimum 6 months)
- Technical qualifications (Degree\HND Qualified)
- Very good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong mathematical and technical skills
- Computer literate with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Projectpackages (AutoCAD, Workspace, CRM's, etc)
- Superior leadership skills along with the ability to delegate
- Project management skills
- Teamwork skills
- Ability to work under deadlines
- Able to analyse large amount of data and come up with solutions
- Knowledge of the relevant legal and safety regulations
- Ability to manage a project as a whole while still attending to specific areas
- Local and living within commutable distance to site location (Tame Valley Viaduct, Aston Hall Road, Birmingham B6 7LP)
