The Britannia Steam Ship Insurance Association (Britannia), a mutual P&I Club that provides P&I and FD&D cover to shipowners and charterers worldwide.

The Griffin Insurance Association Limited (Griffin), an insurance mutual that provides professional indemnity insurance to broking firms and MGAs around the world.

The Wren Insurance Association Limited (Wren), an insurance mutual that provides professional indemnity insurance to architectural practices operating in the UK and overseas.


The Role


We are looking for a qualified Actuary (FIA) to join our Actuarial team on a part -time basis (3 days per week) to work on reserving and capital.

The focus will be on improving the existing processes and developing new approaches to reflect changing regulatory landscapes.


Primarily the role will focus on Britannia P&I club but with opportunities to get involved with the two Professional Indemnity mutuals, Wren and Griffin.

This role will have a meaningful impact on data-driven decision making across our three Insurance Associations.

You will join a dedicated team of 8 and report to the Chief Actuary.


Main duties will include:


Reserving:

  • Supporting the evolution of the reserving approach to incorporate an early close process
  • Develop more granular reserving analysis (e.g. alternative segmentation of the portfolio)
  • Embed the IFRS17 solution (for one branch)

Capital:

  • Support the development of the existing (nonapproved) internal model
  • Research new capital regimes (Hong Kong, Japan, Solvency UK) and build the team's capabilities to calculate them


The successful applicant will be able to drive forward changes and delegate work to the existing actuarial team to embed it into existing processes.

The individual may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as the company may reasonably require.


Experience Required

  • Actuary with significant years of experience in Reserving.

Desirable

  • Experience in Solvency II capital regime.
  • Fellow of IFoA or other actuarial body (e.g. FCAS)
  • Knowledge of ResQ and R would be useful.

  • Interpersonal skills & teamwork ethic ability to work in a crossfunctional team to deliver a solution.
