What will I be doing as a Building Surveyor?

As a Building Surveyor, you will liaise with wider senior management across Dignity regarding all related matters to property such as tenders, placing orders, supervising works through to completion and authorising accounts for payments.

You will also managemajor works projects on refurbishments, dilapidations, maintenance repairs and acquisitions anywhere between the budgets of £100k to £1million which you will have the autonomy to manage end-to-end to find the best, innovative solutions.


Other duties will include:

  • To act as a conduit for contact with property owners regarding the preparation of works and obtaining property owner's consent
  • Liaising with the Project & Design Manager with regard to aspects of interior design e.g. Decor, lighting, carpets, curtains and furniture suppliers
  • Finalise proposals with the Regional Managers/Head Office, Project & Design Manager and Health & Safety Managers in respect of projects
  • Receive and manage enquiries for major building repairs from Funeral & Crematoria divisions action or instruct Contractors.
  • Produce plans in liaison with Architects, deal with Planning Building Regulation issues and draw up Specifications / Schedule of Works / CDM
  • Generally, monitor the Portfolio for potential liability on daytoday visits and carry out property inspections as needed

What Do I Need?:


  • Full UK Driving License (will need to conduct site visits for this role)
  • RICS/CIOB qualified or working towards a full qualification
  • Experience of working within a Building Surveyor role previously within private practice consultancy or clientfacing
  • Experience in procuring and managing a wide range of projects including minor works through to multimillionpound refurbishments and fitting out of new acquisitions projects
  • Good stakeholder engagement and is able to build longlasting working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Organised, hardworking and can work on their own initiative or as part of a team effectively
