Production Planner
We're recruiting for a Production Planner to join our team based in Pencoed. In this role you will be reporting into the Value Stream Lead.


About Ortho, Pencoed:

Ortho Clinical Diagnostics has been manufacturing products in South Wales for over 40 years.

Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, based in Pencoed, employs over 500 people who are involved in the manufacture and supply of clinical laboratory and immunohematology products to a global customer base.

Our Pencoed team manufacture a large menu of immunoassay products encompassing a range of disease categories.

In addition to the continued support our growing scientific community provide to our existing products, we are also harnessing our Research & Development capabilities for the creation of novel new content to expand our immunoassay menu.


We are proud to be a global hub for critical manufacturing lines, and we have recently expanded our capabilities with three new state-of-the-art manufacturing lines to produce a comprehensive suite of immunohematology products for blood typing and crossmatching of blood donor units.

You're new role:


In this role you will be reporting into the Value Stream Lead and will have a dotted line into the Master Production Planner.

You will be responsible for developing smooth, uninterrupted Work Centre Schedules, either from MRP or Kanban related processes in a SAP system environment, balancing demand and supply, whilst considering capacity constraints through the use of Rough-Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP).


What you'll be doing:


  • Determine optimum methods for replenishment of materials for manufacturing
  • Act as Work Centre focal for material control, ensuring a consistent approach, within relevant procedures
  • Ensure accurate and timely introduction of change
  • Maintenance and regular review of planning Static Data implementing appropriate batch size changes
  • Early identification of variations to plan, highlighting corrective actions to the Master Production Scheduler or the Planning Manager
  • Support traceability through existing procedures
  • Measure, monitor and report, providing visual measures, Material Supply performance including
  • MPS Adherence
  • Customer on time delivery
  • WIP level of, and on time performance
  • Safety Stocks, against targets set
  • Scrap / Surplus / Excess material
  • Component shortages
  • Relevant budgetary variances
  • Support Manufacturing in the implementation of manufacturing plans, day to day management of WIP and lineside stocks, and minimizing throughput times
  • Support the Master Production Scheduler, and manufacturing, in capacity planning
  • Effective planning and implementation of change
- support the principles of Lean Manufacturing and the adoption of a 5S culture

  • Ensure maintenance of accurate and timely records of discrepant material including prompt disposition
  • Derive and maintain agreed levels of safety stock and surplus being produced
  • Support introduction of New Product in line with Organizational target and managing impact on capacity and resource within value stream.

What you'll need to succeed:


  • CPIM or Equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of operational processes within a highly regulated environment.
  • Experience of working as a Production Planner in a similar industry.
  • SAP Experience is essential
  • Proven ability to carry out structured problem solving
  • Knowledge of PEx and Lean principles to support proactive participation in improvements
  • Ability to, crossfunctionally, communicate effectively at all levels across site
  • Ability to train/ coach/ support within the team as necessary
  • Able to develop work centre schedules, that balance demand and supply to support Production Plan/ MPS, aligning unscheduled customer needs as necessary, considering all constraints, with a proven record of meeting targets
  • Able to analyse Work Centre inventory, understanding its association with site budgets
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain management,
