    Quantity Surveyor Role Summary

    As a Quantity Surveyor, you will ensure the successful financial delivery and completion of projects while protecting the company from financial risks and adhering to commercial procedures. The expanding Manchester office requires a Quantity Surveyor for commercial management of various sized projects with current values ranging between £100k and £4m.

    Responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor:

    • Agree on interim payment amounts with clients, monitoring payments due, received, or outstanding.
    • Negotiate final account agreements and prepare project budgets in collaboration with the Sales team and/or Project Manager as needed.
    • Monitor budgets against costs and projections monthly, reporting upward on a regular basis.
    • Assist with troublesome subcontractor final accounts, ensuring fulfillment of contractual obligations.
    • Collaborate with the Project team and Directors on all commercial matters, identifying and recording variations, delays, etc.
    • Support Project Managers and Directors in preparing contractual notices and attend site visits to monitor variations and quality issues as required.
    • Attend client meetings as necessary.
    • Review and input tender stage terms and conditions in conjunction with the Sales team.
    • Maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, and colleagues.
    • Mentor junior team members when required.

    Requirements for a Successful Quantity Surveyor:

    • Experience working in a similar commercial role within the fire protection sector or building services industry is essential.
    • Familiarity with standard forms of contract is crucial.
    • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations relevant to the Fire Engineering industry is desirable.
    • Proficiency in cost control techniques and software applications is vital.
    • Awareness of dispute resolution procedures and experience managing disputes is essential.
    • The ability to produce accurate monthly cost and value reports is mandatory.
    • Effective negotiation skills with clients and subcontractors are necessary.
    • Experience working on final accounts is essential.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy are crucial.
    • Effective communication and negotiation skills are vital.
    • The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.
    • Proficiency in IT/software specific tools like MS Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. is essential.
    • Holding a degree in Quantity Surveying or currently pursuing one is desirable.
