Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery opened in 1874 and houses a rich and fascinating collection, covering fine art, decorative art, Egyptology, coins, manuscripts, natural history, social history and South Asia.

Recently awarded Arts Council England National Portfolio status as well as capital works through MEND funding and headiing towards our 150th year in 2024, it is an exciting time to join the team to look forward to and shape the next period in our development.


We are looking for a person who can bring a people centred approach to working with heritage and collections, both within formal and informal learning, taking the museum to the community as well as bringing it to the venue.

The Outreach and Engagement Officer will lead on the development and delivery of an engagement programme, developing collaborations with communities and partners to create inclusive and unheard narratives of the collections and borough.


Alongside this they will be responsible for devising, facilitating and managing a programme of curriculem based learning workshops and resources for schools and groups both at the museum and through outreach and e-learning.


As a small museum team the post will be an integral part of Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, working with collections, engagement and front of house to collectively ensure that we foster and develop strong relationships within the community and develop an inclusive narrative for the museum as we move into the next 150 years.
