Job summary:


Thank you for your interest in the post of Digital Documentation Officer with Historic Environment Scotland, based at the Engine Shed in Stirling.

This is a permanent and pensionable appointment.

As Digital Documentation Officer, you will be part of the Digital Documentation and Innovation Team.

This is a specialised technical role, and you will be responsible for digital documentation data capture (including laser scanning and photogrammetry), geospatial point cloud processing and equipment management to support a range of high-profile project work.


Job description:


This is a specialised technical role, undertaking digital documentation geospatial fieldwork, data processing and supporting all aspects of digital documentation projects, contributing to the successful delivery of strategic organisational priorities.


Key responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Undertake digital documentation geospatial fieldwork to a high and consistent standard, using a range of laser scanners, structured light scanners, cameras and GNSS equipment.
  • Responsibility for pre and post fieldwork project management including writing Risk Assessments and Method Statements, organising travel and accommodation, equipment preparation and metadata completion.
  • Undertake digital documentation data processing to a high and consistent standard, using a range of software packages including Leica Cyclone, Artec Studio and Reality Capture.
  • Processing 3D data access requests.
  • Responsibility for equipment maintenance, monthly audits and annual calibrations.
  • Shared responsibility for orderly upkeep of Digital Studios and storage spaces.
  • Undertake critical backup to magnetic tape medium.
  • Shared responsibility for 3D printers and immersive experience systems maintenance and operation.
  • Support for the development and delivery of outreach events.

Person specification:


_ Essential requirements:
_


  • Demonstrable experience and good working knowledge of terrestrial laser scanning, structured light scanning, photogrammetry and GNSS recording.
  • Demonstrable experience in use of Leica Cyclone registration software to complete and deliver large and complex digital documentation projects to a high and reproducible standard.
  • Demonstrable experience in use of other specialist 3D software packages, for example Reality Capture, Potree, 3D Reshaper, Polyworks, Leica Infinity, Autodesk ReCap, Faro Scene, Z+F Laser Control, Cloud Compare, Artec Studio, Blender, 3D Studio Max.
  • Fieldwork and onsite survey experience.
  • Experience in writing Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Demonstrable experience of metadata recording and awareness of database archiving requirements.
  • Experience and confidence in communication with a range of audiences.
  • Experience and good working knowledge of data backup principles and processes.
  • Strong communication skills and team working.
  • Attention to detail and quality and excellent organisational skills.
  • Full UK driving licence to facilitate fieldwork travel with equipment to remote and rural locations.

  • An interest in the historic environment and its conservation.
  • An awareness of HES Climate Action Plan and how this post can support its delivery.
  • Knowledge of 3D printing.
  • First Aid qualification.

_Qualifications & Professional Memberships:

  • SCQF Level 10 in geomatics, geospatial technologies, data science, computer science, digital heritage or architectural technology is essential.
