Base Pay:
$15.65 Hourly


SUMMARY:


The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the Department Head.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Dependent on the position to which assigned:
Collects Release Reports from booking and documents release dates in inmate active files.

Files in inactive files.

Files inmate incident reports and requests from inmates in their files.

Responds to requests for visitation forms and passes out request forms.

Composes and types standardized and/or non-standardized correspondence and other documents and materials, using a typewriter and/or word processing software.

Uses spreadsheet and/or data base software to input and retrieve information.

Enters changes on visitation lists and unit transfers of inmates in the computer.

Works as relief for information desk when requested.


Activities include answering telephone calls in reference to inmates and directing Probation Officers, Attorneys and Civilian personnel to the appropriate department.

Conducts research, as needed, to respond to routine and non-routine questions about particular areas of responsibility.

Prepares and issues documents according to established guidelines.

Receives deposits at end of shift and maintains appropriate records.

Issues receipts.


Provides an accounting of cash balances, ensures that cash balances with receipts issued, and is responsible for resolving most discrepancies independently.

Prepares cash and checks for deposit and makes deposits.

May reconcile bank statements and pay bills.

May copy files for counselors.

May manage office supply inventory.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Any employee who drives a vehicle on official business must have a driving record which meets standards set by the County and the County's insurance carrier.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:


High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus, a minimum of three years responsible clerical work experience, preferably with a government entity.


Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, may be considered for current Nueces County employees only.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively to management and employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
May be required to be bondable and/or hold or obtain certification as a notary public.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain moderately complex records and files and to organize data for reports.


Ability to prepare reports independently, complying with reporting guidelines and using judgment to detect and remedy inconsistencies or other problems.

Ability to proofread for completeness, accuracy, and content.

Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations.

Ability to type accurately at a speed of at least 50 words per minute.

Ability to operate a computer using standard word processing data inquiry, or spreadsheet software packages.

Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Ability to make judgments regarding appropriate response to moderately difficult questions or situations.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and officials and with the general public.
