Job Introduction:


BBC Children in Need is currently looking for a Senior Impact Officer on an internal attachment until the end of December 2024.

This role will support the Head of Impact in our central team by taking responsibility for the operational delivery of team responsibilities.

The Senior Impact Officer based in the central Design & Delivery Team has a specific central and UK-wide remit.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide a support, leadership and coordination function, helping to effectively deliver and optimise BBC Children in Need's grant making processes and grant making policy.

Working effectively with colleagues and drawing on internal and external learning and expertise, the role will support to identify and embed change, focusing on continuous improvement across all types of grant (including partnerships with external organisations).


The role will work with teams across the UK and centrally, playing an active and lead role in driving quality and supporting to embed a continuous improvement approach.


The role will include oversight of administrative activities, monitoring and reporting of grant making and management activity, active risk assessment, management and learning.


Our team of Senior Officers work together to support the overall output of our Design and Delivery function, but each with their own areas of specialism.


This role will primarily focus on supporting our processes, workflow and programme design, helping us to make sure our grant making is working smoothly.

This could involve work to develop new process design, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, and helping us to keep operations functioning well.

Main Responsibilities:

Whilst all Senior Impact Officers will work in a collaborative manner to support the delivery of the team Business Plan and Objectives, individuals will develop a specific area of focus


They will:

  • Develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with the rest of the charity
  • To provide advice and guidance to our regional, national and central grant teams on issues of grant making and grant management and our policies. To raise the need to change policy, to research and propose those changes. To contribute suggestions for policy and wording, and to implement and advise within the wider team

Tasks may include:

  • Managing Grant Calendar
  • End to end Assessment Management
  • Management of freelance assessors including recruitment, contracting, training, guidance, allocating, queries, performance management, payments, exit etc.
  • Process management for all grant making needs
  • Providing full and accurate guidance, training and communication of processes
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to processes
  • Systems expertise (grant management system) data compliance, checking coding, building dashboards
  • Complaints management (for team)
  • Line management, training, workflow, and resource management for Officers and Assistants
  • Responsibility for GDPR best practice in grant making processes
  • To undertake observations of panel / meeting processes
  • Experience of end to end process design and management
  • Excellent database / data management skills
  • Experience of grantmaking or grant management processes
  • The ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet deadlines
  • Excellent relationshi
