RAF Brize Norton is the largest station in the Royal Air Force with approximately 7600 personnel - a combination of military, civilian and supporting contractors, together maintaining the highly operational output of both regular and reserve units.

The Station is home to the RAF's Strategic and Tactical Air Transport (AT) and Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) forces, as well as host to many lodger units and personnel from all armed services.

With its mixed fleet of aircraft RAF Brize Norton provides rapid global mobility in support of UK overseas Operations and Exercises, as well as AAR support for fast jet aircraft both on Operations and in support of UK Homeland Defence.

This position comes under the Station's Business and Resource Management (BRM) Wing.

The Wing's mission is to provide an Integrated Business Unit which will help equip the station with the necessary governance systems and Financial and Workforce resources required to support deployed operations and generate air power, ensuring that resources are committed effectively and efficiently.

The Business and Resource Management Wing is the Station focal point for advice and guidance on:
Civilian Work Force Planning

Audit and Assurance

Scrutiny of Expenditure Proposals

Management and Monitoring Expenditure

Arranging and booking of Travel arrangements

Cash and Banking services

Issuing and reconciling Flight Sub Imprests

Issuing Bills and hastening Recoveries of outstanding debts.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:


  • You will report to EO Civilian Workforce Planner and will be required to carry out the following tasks:
  • Ensure the correct and proper authority is obtained prior to booking travel or accommodation in accordance with current Travel Cell and MOD/Air Command policy.
  • Coordinate and arrange necessary duty travel and accommodation (incl. overseas car hire) by the most efficient and economic means to meet the requirements of the customer and achieve best value for money within any capped cost limits.
  • Provide written confirmation of travel, accommodation and overseas car hire reservations to customers, ensuring that they are fully aware of all dates, times and itineraries etc.
  • As a Travel EPC (Electronic Procurement Card) Holder, utilise your EPC on an exceptional basis to arrange any travel which, for valid reasons and as agreed by Line Management, cannot be booked via Defence Travel/GBT, maintaining an appropriate transaction log.
  • Monitor and consult appropriate published Joint and Air publications, Staff Instructions etc as and when appropriate when making travel and hotel reservations.
  • Maintain a Travel Cell Register for all approved and subsequently booked travel and hotel etc reservations relating to duty travel. Maintain all appropriate records, registers and document archives to maintain appropriate audit trails, retaining these for a period of 6 complete financial years
  • When asked to make hotel reservations, ensure that Service Accommodation is utilised whenever possible and JPA Form 008s are obtained when this is not available.
  • Provide advice and information to line managers, budget holders and customers on available travel and accommodation options and relevant costs as and when requested.
  • Regularly review and improve Travel Cell processes to ensure best practice is applied and improve services to customers.
  • Compile adhoc statistics and data/cost reports using appropriate Travel Cell records as and when requested by line management.
  • In conjunction with the other Travel Cell Clerks, assist in the reconciliation of the monthly Defence Travel Management Information (DTMI) reports from Air Command against booking registers reporting any findings to the Audit and Assurance EO.
  • Investigate any expenditure not booked via the Travel Cell, seeking line management approval to raise bills against individuals when necessary.
