Band 3 Rehabilitation Assistant - up to 37.5 hours per week, part time hours also considered.


The West Early Supported Stroke Discharge (ESSD) Team are looking to recruit someone with an interest in community rehabilitation or neurology to a permanent Rehabilitation Assistant post of up to 37.5 hours per week.


The ESSD service plays a vital role in safe, supported early discharge home from the Hyperacute Stroke Unit at the Cumberland Infirmary and the stroke ward at West Cumberland Hospital.

We work with people in their own homes and local community to increase their function following a stroke - the work is varied, interesting and very satisfying We cover the ICC areas of Workington and Copeland and travel across these areas is required.

As a Rehabilitation Assistant in the team you will be key in the provision of evidence based specialist treatment programs for patients following a stroke, who may have a range of impairments and complex health needs, such as limb weakness, vision changes, cognitive problems or speech difficulties.

The therapy plans often include supporting patients to practice their normal daily activities such as personal care, meal preparation, support with medication and accessing their community in order to achieve their rehabilitation goals.

We focus on patients' individual personal goals to direct their treatment plans.

You will be working with a full multidisciplinary team comprising of Occupational Therapists, physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists and neuropsychologists.


The ESSD service works across the Workington and Copeland ICC areas to provide rehabilitation to people recently discharged from hospital following a stroke.

This requires the ability to travel across these areas, as well as working flexibly to meet service needs.

You will work with patients in their own homes and other community and clinical settings, under the direction and supervision of qualified therapists.

The post is currently Monday -Friday, but may involve weekend working in the future.

Part time hours can be considered and working patterns can be discussed at interview or by contacting the Team Lead.

£18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.
