About the role
Balfour Beatty (BB) is looking to make a crtitical hire and appoint a
UK Compliance Officer. The location of the role is
flexible with some national travel.


As Balfour Beatty's UK Compliance Officer, you will take full ownership for the UK Ethics & Compliance function and strategy.


What you'll be doing
As the
UK Compliance Officer, you will have the following accountabilities:

  • Overseeing the design and implementation of an ethics and compliance programme for UK operations, building on the work that has already been achieved
  • Setting and reinforcing tone at the top
  • Reinforcing BB's culture and values
  • Creating and reinforcing a "speak up" culture
  • Leveraging existing enterprise risk assessments, internal audit reviews and quality reviews to carry out (as required) an assessment of BB's compliance and reputational risks from across the business
  • Creating and managing effective action plans in response to risk assessments, audit discoveries and speak up data
  • Developing training and communication strategies
  • Evaluating data (e.g. speak up data, audit findings, compliance exception reports) to help inform improvements to the compliance programme
  • Regularly auditing and monitoring procedures, practices, and operations to identify possible weaknesses or risk.
  • Creation of lessons learnt.

Who we're looking for
This is a role which requires the ability to influence and command respect within the organisation and with peers.

You will be able to demonstrate significant experience working at an appropriately senior level, in an analytical and/or investigative role within a corporate compliance, finance, legal or other investigative function.

Specifically, you will be able to demonstrate proven experience of leading investigations both from a business and potentially legal perspective in a sensitive, commercial environment, while offering proposals and recommendations in a non-judgmental manner.


You will possess the following attributes:

  • Ability to work closely with senior leaders, providing a sounding board and challenge
  • Ability to promote and manage significant change, demonstrating a track record of managing change through the organisation
  • Act as a credible partner with external stakeholders
  • Selfstarter, highly motivated, energetic and dedicated, with a strong track record of promotion in the organisations that you have worked in
  • Passionate about your work and adaptable; you will have strong communication skills and an ability to command respect at all levels of the organisation
  • Independent and objective, whilst commercially astute
  • Ability to analyse complex data with accuracy
  • Strong IT skills and knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Word etc.
  • Sound analytical and problemsolving skills along with the ability to make timely and balanced decisions, despite uncertainties and pressures, which consider the wider strategic picture and implications for the organisation.
