What is the job about?


We're looking for a People Advisor to join our team in Gateshead and provide business operational support to ensure effective support, guidance and advice on a wide variety of People related matters.

You will work alongside the People services team, reporting to the People Team Leader.

Your role will be to support colleagues and managers across the group, support will include but not limited to:


  • Employee Relations case management
  • Policy & Process updates
  • Performance Management
  • Capability and absence management
  • Grievance matters
  • Disciplinary issues
  • Support with the delivery of key people projects

What exactly will you do?

  • Provide firstline advice, guidance, coaching, and support to all colleagues (including management and senior leadership team) across a wide range of People matters.
  • Escalation of people matters to the appropriate business partner, providing appropriate recommendations.
  • Support case management of ER cases relating to disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence and performance. This includes providing advice to managers on policy/procedure and legislation, liaising with Occupational Health, supporting formal investigations and hearings.
  • Support the wider People Team in implementing and embedding new strategies and initiatives across the organisation.
  • Build good working relationships with all line managers in order to better understand their needs and provide appropriate HRrelated support.
  • Ensure the timely and satisfactory resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Provide updates on key changes to policies/ processes/ new initiatives and any trends identified in ER reporting.
  • Collaborate on operational projects which improve service delivery, including supporting with the development of team objectives and KPI's.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records and provide written and verbal reports as required.
  • Act in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies & procedures, and guidelines both internal and external.
  • Case management including advice, guidance and support on performance & capability reviews, absence management, resolution of the grievance and disciplinary issues etc.
  • Support with exit interviews and identify trends/patterns using data collated and prepare monthly reports.
  • Keep abreast of HR developments, best practices, and updates in employment law legislation.
  • Support the ongoing development of the HR system (PHR) to maintain the integrity of the employee data in our systems.
  • Contribute to and support HR generalist projects across the employee life cycle.
  • Drive own professional development to increase personal effectiveness, acknowledging strengths and areas for development.
  • Adhoc peoplerelated duties deemed fit and appropriate by the Company within the capacity of the role

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience in a HR advisor role
  • Strong knowledge of human resources processes
  • Sound knowledge of employment legislation
  • Strong ability in using MS office
  • Effective communication skills
  • CIPD Level 3 Diploma/equivalent
  • Experience with working with stakeholders at a senior level is desirable but not essential
  • CIPD Level 5 or working towards is desirable.
