Part time Mental Health Wellbeing Adviser (0.4 FTE)

14 hours per week x 52 weeks or 17.5 hours per week during term time (40 weeks)

Grade 6 £28,762 - £34,308 pro rata

The Student Support Service provides a fully integrated support service for students at Abertay, which aims to provide high quality professional, impartial, non-judgemental advice, and guidance on a broad range of issues.

Based in the Bernard King Library, it is made up of five teams.

The Counselling and Mental Health Service currently has a vacancy for a Mental Health Wellbeing Adviser.

Reporting to the Counselling and Mental Health Service Manager, the principal remit is to provide short-term therapeutic focused interventions for students who have disclosed serious and enduring mental health difficulties.

As a post holder you will work in partnership with a range of university professionals, teams, departments and with key external agencies and organisations, to ensure we deliver the highest quality services possible.


The post holder will also a play leading role in ensuring a co-ordinated response to any concerns about individual students' mental health, promote positive mental wellbeing to students, and be responsible for increasing mental health awareness to both student and staff on a range of topics pertinent to the student's mental health.


Registration/Accreditation within a relevant professional body which includes a responsibility to maintain professional accreditation through updating skills and knowledge, and which upholds a code of ethics and complaints procedure.


The post holder will have experience working with individuals with mental health difficulties, including assessment, risk management and provision of therapeutic interventions.

Through your experience, you will be able to demonstrate empathy and an ability to build rapport quickly with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

It is essential the role holder can manage competing demands. This will require both effective planning, time-management along with a willingness to work flexibly within a close-knit team environment.
