An opportunity exists for an exceptional individual to join us as fully supernumerary Deputy Manager at Muirfield Nursing Home in East Lothian, only 30 minutes from Edinburgh.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • NMC or SSSC registered
  • SVQ 4 in Social Services and Healthcare desirable, but training will be provided
  • Experience of first line management with demonstrable experience at Deputy, Charge Nurse or Unit Manager level.
  • Clear and concise communicator with excellent listening skills
  • Experience of 'Care of the Elderly' and an indepth understanding of dementia
  • The ability to maintain a positive attitude at all times
  • Knowledge of employment law, the private sector, and care home legislation are desirable

Job Purpose


Randolph Hill Group operates nursing homes offering long and short-term care to older adults, many of whom are frail or have cognitive difficulties.

Each home's philosophy is to provide competent, skilled and empathetic individualised care.

The company iscommitted to future expansion, therefore each home must operate on a professional business basis, maintaining budgeted profit margins.


You will be ably supported on a daily basis by the Home Manager, and our experienced and accessible senior management team, as well as our staff at head office who provide help with financial matters, recruitment, marketing and facilities management.


Main responsibilities
Implement good management practice over a 24 hour period, seven days a week (mostly Monday-Friday but with on-call responsibilities and occasional planned out-of-hours shifts)

Maintain a safe, healthy, happy environment for residents, involving them in decisions about their care Achieve and maintain high standards of care, promoting the principles of respect, dignity, confidentiality

Operate an economically viable home to the highest possible standards, within budgets

Maintain high standards of housekeeping within company policies and the national guidance

Manage expenditure and maintain high levels of occupancy

Recruit, employ, train and develop staff at all levels

Monitor quality of care planning and care delivery

Develop and maintain strong and collaborative working relationships with external agencies, in order to benefit residents

Operate in a professional manner, meeting the expectations of the NMC or SSSC professional codes

Lead the staff team with a positive approach to resident participation

Keep accurate and up-to-date written records

Be accurate and timely in your completion of required documents and information for Head Office

Deputise for the manager in their absence in all areas of managing the home

Ensure the home complies with all regulatory and statutory obligations

In the Managers absence, keep in regular contact with the Directors, giving feedback on the operation of the home.
