Description
We are now looking for an Environmental Advisor to join our team in Worcester.


The role of the Environmental Advisor will be to lead the environmental requirements, including carbon emission reduction, for VolkerLaser - to ensure corporate and legal compliance, and develop an approach in the business that competes with the best in the industry.

There may be occasions in which you will support the health and safety requirements.


The role will be based from an office location ideally in the West Midlands, and on occasions involve working on various sites across the UK.

Flexibility to travel will be required and on occasions you may be required to stay away overnight.


You will be supporting projects belonging to either of our five key divisions where we operate as either Principal Contractor or Sub-contractor to well respected tier 1 contractors and recognised infrastructure clients.


You will also be required to support other business functions such as business development and to support or lead on specific improvement tasks.


Key accountabilities:


  • Provide specialist advice and support to the business and project teams on environmental issues.
  • Support the development of environmental management plans at project and business levels.
  • Undertake audits and inspections.
  • Ensure investigations are carried out as appropriate following environmental incidents.
  • Act as process owner for the environmental management system.
  • Develop procedures, toolbox talks and guidance.
  • Build and manage relationships with key clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Support tenders and quality submissions.
  • Support the maintenance of relevant certifications.
  • Identify and embed environmental best practice.
  • Identify opportunities to promote circular economy and waste reduction.
  • Manage environmental data collection for monitoring and reporting.
  • Develop and deliver internal and external training.
  • Develop a carbon strategy to support our aspiration of net zero by 203
  • Collect / review carbon data.
  • Produce base line / benchmarking of carbon data for performance analysis.
  • Identify and advise on carbon emission reduction opportunities, including the adoption of technology / innovation.
  • Review and advise on carbon offsetting.
  • Develop an approach to understand / report on scope 3 emissions e.g. emissions related to our supply chain.

Skills & experience:


  • Good presentation, written, and analytical skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability and selfconfidence to build strong working relationships internally and externally at all levels.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and time management ability.
  • Understanding and experience of implementing and managing ISO14001 management systems.
  • Basic understanding of HSEQ legislation.
  • Demonstrable achievement in a similar role.
  • Practitioner level membership of IEMA (or equivalent), working towards Chartered status.
  • Knowledge of UK environmental legislation and best practice.
  • Experience of working as an environmental professional within the construction industry would be advantageous.
