We are seeking friendly, caring and dedicated health care assistants to join our fantastic team on the AAU.


On the AAU you can expect both a rewarding and challenging role, working with a wide range of acutely unwell oncology patients.


You should possess excellent communication skills, be willing to work flexibly as part of a team and be committed to high standards of working.


The working hours of this role will be a mix of day and night shifts and we are also currently looking for any applicant who may want permanent night duty to apply.


We have a high standard of care on the AAU and we are looking for someone who will complement our team and who will give compassionate and dedicated care to our patients.

We have a strong focus on professional development and would be keen to develop new members of staff with clinical competencies and appropriate training.

Informal visits would be recommended.


As a senior healthcare assistant, you will work within the team to ensure the safety and care of all patients on the ward is achieved.

You will provide a professional and caring approach to meeting patients needs such as basic hygiene and personal care, supportive communication and assessment of their daily needs

The Christie is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year.

We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.


We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services.

We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years.

We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year.

Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.


You will have the training and support with clinical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation, accessing central lines, taking observations including manual blood pressures, monitoring blood glucose levels, performing ECGs and catheter care.

You will also take initiative and ensure correct assessment of patient skin integrity and risk levels regarding falls, pressure damage etc and document and escalate accordingly.

You will support the ward in maintaining cleanliness and stock. You will support patient's hydration and nutrition needs and document using bedside charts.

You will support patient flow by assisting the team in transferring of patients as needed and preparing bed spaces available for the next patient.

There will be a range of clinical tests you will also support the team in collecting such as covid swab tests, MRSA swabs, lateral flow testing and collecting a range of specimens.


You will be engaged with the ward safety controls and policies and engage in the ward based training and initiatives to ensure ongoing learning and knowledge is in place.

You will support and communicate with your colleagues with dignity and respect in line with the Christie trust values and behaviours.
