Starting Salary:
£38,296 with the opportunity to progress to a maximum of £42,503 per annum plus relocation package, £1000 welcome payment & lease car* terms apply

We currently have a vacancy in the Welwyn & Hatfield Adult Disability Team for a Drug & Alcohol Specialist Social Worker.

If you have an interest, skills, or knowledge in working with people with substance use we would love to hear from you.

The Adult Disability Service provide support to adults with a learning or physical disability. We promote personalisation through our assessment process focusing on the wellbeing of the individual.

Through care planning we strive for increased independence,choice and control by offering personal budgets to enable people to direct their own support.


We are looking for a Social Worker with a specialism in drug and alcohol to work across the East of the county, to provide social care support to people with needs arising from substance use.

Some experience in this field would be desirable. You will haveexperience of managing case work in the areas of personalisation and safeguarding.

You will joint work with providers of drug and alcohol treatment and recovery services, ensuring this group of people have equitable access under the Care Act to social careassessments.


You will also develop knowledge and skills within the team to allow for a more specialist approach to practice and work with commissioners in a joint approach to enable better care options for people.


You will need to be SW(E) registered Social Worker and will undertake Care Act assessments for eligible current and historical cases, using our Connected Lives strategy to review and manage packages of care.

We are based in Stevenage however we encourage smart working with the benefit of a laptop and smart phone.

You would be required to be office based 40% of the week and you have the option of working at home or at one of our touchdowns across the area.

Safeguarding children and adults is of utmost importance to Hertfordshire County Council. The Council requires employees to abide by legislation and best practice to enable Hertfordshire to achieve this. This role has been identified as requiringa Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

Driving Roles Only:

As part of this role, you will be required to travel to other HCC Sites/Residences either using your own mode of transport or a company car.

In light of this, the ability to drive and/or travel around the County is required for this rolea DVLA check will be required on appointment.


English Fluency:

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
